Hello,
Been thinking about taking the kayak out in the SD bay for the first time.
Where's the best place to launch?
Hoping to go for some halibut. Maybe near the bait barge.
Thanks!

Shelter Island launch ramp, you can drop it right at the edge, or wheel it to the beach right next door. Pay attention to the tidal swings, fish the channel edges or the flats close to the 'Nado side. You can also launch off the beach at Tidelands in Coronado. 1st exit across the bridge, two right turns, park on the right side, short haul to the beach. I usually fish the channel, drifting with the tide, bouncing leadheads off the bottom. Hope this helps, good luck. I'm in the bay about once a week, drop me a line if you want to tag along sometime.

Raffman basically nailed it above....
IMO - Shelter Island is easiest/best launch in SDB, and Tidelands is the second easiest/best launch there.
but if you really want Hali's, SI area typically has produced way more for me over the years. Tidelands has always been mostly all Bass for me.

If you want to head toward the bait barge then Shelter Island is the closest launch. For bassin Around the bridge Tidelands is the one. There are several other good launches in SDB. Jst, 24th st, glorietta bay, and spanish landind are all good for fishing different parts of the bay. Mike
