Besides the obvious i.e. fishing rods and tackle I wanted to see what gear or accessories you guys just can't fish without. What is the must have when you guys hit the water?

I know this is something we all do, however for some of the newbies out there getting into this sport, or fishing period I thought maybe if we all listed some of the "Must Have" items that we take with us, it may help others.

PFD
paddle
FF
gaff(bay and ocean, you never know what you will catch)
seat
whistle
knife
pliers
braid line cutters
bait tank
sunscreen
radio VHF
sunglasses
hat
Obviously the fishing gear I will need or use
waterproof cell phone case
pump in the event I'm taking on water

If I think of more I will list them. Looking forward to seeing what you all post up.

Simple forum search. Been asked many many times

......Never bring a banana

one of the most entertaining & FALSE wise tales in all of fishing !! :D

i take bananas on many of my fishing outings EVERYWHERE & still catch tons of fish.

i had just eaten a banana mins before hooking up with the 35" Hali, that i released in SDB on July 26.
i also ate 2 bananas during my July 29 outing in SDB, when i caught 40 Bass & 65 total fish.

i take them on the 1/2 day & 3/4 day boats all the time as well. and typically do as well or better, than most other fishermen on those boats/trips.

i cover well with sunscreen BEFORE hitting water in yak.
i NEVER take sunscreen ON my yak.

(you want to TRULY "curse" your fishing, forget worrying about a banana.... just get some sunscreen on your hooks, lines, and/or baits.)

i always take (in the Bays and for Inshore outings):

long-nose pliers, folding knife, nail clippers (for trimming knots/line), fish finder & battery, net, water & food in small cooler, big sun hat, sunglasses, long sleeve shirt, long nylon pants, beach slipper shoes (to protect feet while pedaling mirage drive), inflatable seat cushion, life jacket, whistle, camera, head-band lamp (for dusk, dark times), portable FM radio (i have to have rock & roll going, to last out there for my typical 8-12 hour outings).

i only take these items out, for Inshore fishing:

gaff, bait tubes or bait tank & battery, sm canned cat food (to use as "chum" IF i can't find macks for bait), cut squid (to use for bottom fishing IF nothing is biting on top water).

still never owned a VHF radio, but would take it out always, if i had one.

The thing that turned my fishing around the most was a bait tank. I never go with out it.

Food!! Drink and an empty bottle properly identified to prevent confusion with Mountain Dew or similarly colored drink. Not speaking from experience.

I thought that's what scuppers are for!

That's one of the things that make my older Malibu xfactor great there is a scupper in front of the seat and the storage hatch. I'm sure that was intentional from some very experienced kayak fishermen.

Bring ,your head on swivel, boats, birds, sea lions, sneaker swells/waves/wakes, other anglers proximity, the cool views from wherever you are fishing and of course the indigenous bipedal beach mammals should all be on your radar.
