does anyone know how to remove black tar / oil from the bottom of yak ? i picked it up my last outing at the county line . you guys down south may not encounter this stuff so much . i also got it on the yak seat and waders . highly unlikely i will be able to remove from clothing . maybe a little petroleum ? any help would be appreciated .

Anyone that has fished out of Redondo more than a few times has run into it. There is oil seeping from the canyon there which can get pretty thick when the wind is down.

Might give Simple Green a try. I have poured it on my pants when I have gotten oil or grease on them and just threw them in the washing machine. Took it out every time.

Bug and tar remover in automotive section. Also goop hand cleaner

i would test on some similar scrap plastic but oven cleaner would probably do a number on that tar, with aid of a lot of elbow grease. I don't think there is a way around giving the ol' guns a workout.

should do it . we used to spray that stuff on aluminum motorcycle frame to remove clear coat . rub off with brillo pad and then bring to polish with mothers . may end up melting plastic though ? :D .

So a little secret...car wax.
Try to get the liquid type as it is much easier to work with.
Yeah, the green tub of Turtle Wax will work just fine too, but liquid Meguiar's or Mother's is best. You can even find it at your local grocery store usually.
Keep that knowledge in your back pocket. The stuff will remove anything from harder surfaces. Maybe 2x-3x/ year, I do the entire bottom of the kayak. Hard water stains on your car window? Gone. You get the idea. Probably half of the scratches you have on your cars/trucks will come off with car wax.
Removal from your waders is a different story. Can't help you there Tony.

thanks . i will try it . i am thinking getting it off waders is gonna be tough if not impossible . not sure how it got on them . maybe when i was seeing sand / sky , sand / sky . and the yak came around and clobbered me ? actually that last trip i managed to catch a small one and the nose was heavy . it started to dig in , but before it pearled i bailed out . :blush5: .

Dawn soap....takes a bit of elbow grease but got it off my booties, wetsuit and kayak

^ I think I seen a commercial for dawn soap help with cleaning of oil spills that get stuck onto the animals of the ocean and oceans sky.

I got some black tar looking funk on the nose of my Outback when I was loading it on the street in La Jolla last week. I'll try the same thing. Thanks guys!
