"Beginning Saturday, Sept. 28, hundreds of divers and fishermen equipped with lobster hoop nets will descend upon the ocean waters of Southern California in pursuit of this tasty crustacean. Lobsters may be taken only by hand or hoop nets."

Anyone thinking about going out 12:01 am, on Saturday 9/28 around dana point? I'm a first timer and some experience would be nice to have with me.

I went to Dana Point last year for the opener. Not the midnight, but I got there 2 hours before sunset on Saturday afternoon. Yes it is a zoo but if you stake out a spot early it isn't too bad.

Although I prefer to hoop the long wall, I stayed on the short wall for the opener just to cut down on the boat traffic. People came in really tight and I almost lost a hoop in the rocks as I got crowded in too close.

It was fun but this year I will be waiting a couple days, there are plenty of bugs to go around.
