Hey every one nice to join you guys.I've been lurking for about a week , I am on other forums I really want to get in to kayak fishing, I recently tried kayaking out of long beach on a charter trip I seen on Craigslist ,we used hobie pa 14. I have too many hobbies to buy a pa I'm looking at malibu stealths I'm 6'1" 230. I will fish the ocean and sierras , do in really need a 14? Will a 12' work?

Best to do a test drive and see how it goes. Plenty of guys have used a 12 ft. kayak in the ocean.

Do you know the closest place to the valley I can test drive?

If you want to get a stealth, do yourself a favor and get the 14.

Why? What is the deference in 2' is there a major or slight difference?

Tracking, capacity, storage, much more capable in open water.

Does the 14 have the same hatch leak problems as the 12?

Try the ocean kayak T13. Big enough for you, lots of storage, paddles great. Overall length is 13.6.

I have an old, blemished 14 that has had at least 2 previous owners. It is rock solid on the water. Even after pushing through waves and a full day (12 hours) out at La Jolla, the most water I've had in side was about a gallon. I'm 6' 1" and 225 pounds. I've been out in swells that were causing 10 foot depth changes on my fish finder. Never felt unstable. Only drawback is it takes some work to paddle around sometimes.

I am 6'3" and ride an ocean kayak prowler trident 13. This is a super stable fishing machine. Hit big bear in 3 ft whitecaps and the vessel was an absolute dream. Good luck!!!
