I just found out that there is a very good (bad for me) chance that I will be stationed in Guam for my next duty station (along with my wife and newborn and 5 year old). Does anybody on here know anything about the fishing out there? Thanks!!!

Fishing inside the reefs can be ok, fishing outside is very good, take our yak! And watch our where you step, STONE FISH are bad!!!

Back in the mid 60's when I was stationed there the fishing was good. Would gather hermit crabs and use their tails for bait. Would walk out the the edge of the reef and cast out. There was lots of reef and were the best tasting fish I have had. Would take the back to base to the snack bar just before they closed. The Guamanians would clean and cook them. Always had enough for them to take home. They would never charge us to clean and cook. Back then main street was one lane each way. My son was there in late 80's early 90's and now main street is two lanes each way and has signals and a big shopping center. Don't know how it is now but back then I had a great time there and always had great fishing. Good luck there and it's up to you on how your duty will be there. First thing I heard when I got off the plane was guam sucks. For me it was the best duty station I had. It's all what you make out of it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all this info! I would be all for it, if it weren't for my kids and my dogs. It would cost 6000 to move them there. My wife has heard bad things, too.

You can charter the center console from mwr and catch wahoo, tuna, marlin, and dorado. It's cheap and fun. A wet ride though. I never yakked there, if you do, you have to be cognizant of the tides. They can really rip.

A guy I work with went fishing down there once. Don't know the specifics, but his screen saver was him holding a tuna that would have been fun paddling with in a yak.

Viz is clear and bathtub water temp. You may want to make a small investment in a pole spear, fins, mask, and snorkle!

Awesome! If I do get stationed there, I will spend a lot of time fishing. I will keep in touch periodically. I intend to move back to San Diego or to Norcal after finishing my enlistment out at my next duty station.
