Just a heads up. There was a great White sighting at La Jolla today. I just saw the video on Fox 5. It was a mile of Wind and Sea. Be safe out there, how ever that's done.

I saw one a little over a year ago just outside the kelp line in front of the big condo building, while fighting a yellowtail.
Most of us know, they're out there. More often than many people think.
As always though, keep safe when it comes to anything on/in the ocean. It's a big place with a lot of power everywhere.

Why, conditions are awesome and seeing a great white would be a cool bonus.

Trust me, there are plenty of them out there. We have a perfect feeding ground for them. I recommend watching Shark week when it's out, I learned a lot of really cool things about Great Whites. I don't recommend leaving bleeding fish hanging over your kayak but I say live without fear.

Sure wish one would kill a few seals right in front of the seal lady and her crusty minions.

You use a bang stick on a great white and get caught, guess what is going to happen to YOU!

I'm not sure but I saw posts on BWE that said a guy brought his bang stick to the game warden and they told him it was legal. Had to be a minimum length and you could not bring back what you shoot. Other than that. Legal. Maybe it changed I don't know.

TRUE, but it is against the law to capture, or kill a great white, they are protected.

What if you are being eaten by one? I would think a bang stick is part of self defense/last chance to live kinda thing. I'm not saying I would personally carry one. Just wondering if anyone had ever used one.

yep, cruised by one just as long as the X factor one day. was cool till it went too deep to see.
there's a few up at San O too. the resident, Sparky, is seen quite frequently along with a few others.
one evening out at LJ i was cruising from trap to trap and 2 seals went airborn about 60 yards in front of me, took off in different directions then another hit the surface about 30 yards away and took off in a panic. didn't see any shark but i bet something scared the shit out of them.

great for seals. read up on the regs. you can stone those suckers if they try to attack your fish or get on the yak. "protecting life and property"

Not sure I believe that one. But I do know for a fact you can shoot seals with a paintball gun. Even in the face! I saw construction workers in SD bay last weekend doing drive-bys on 100 seals with a fully auto paint gun. Maybe we should all mount paint guns on turrets for our kayaks?

Pepper spray would work too. I wonder if someone makes pepper spray paint balls?
Or load your Glock up with rubber bullets, that would be easier than a paintball gun :)

Great White migration patter...very interesting.

Many shark attacks are reported in late November/Oct. Some surfers up north won't even
go in the water in the month of October.

guys, how long has this site been around? how long have kayaks been fishing off shore?
you don't need to worry. they aren't on a man hunt.

Look, there are gws all over the place around here. San onofre is a confirmed spawning site (one of the only in the world). Don't fear it. Just don't go trick or treating as a tasty seal a mile or 3 off shore. You have a better chance of being killed or hospitilized while landing your yak and being impaled by your paddle than eaten by a shark. Or...live in fear, and quit catchin fish. Leaves more for me.

I carry a 6' tapered gaff with a 3" SS hook protected by a tube cover, he get's too close to me and I can 'spear' him in the nose with the bend of the gaff hook (if I'm not mistaken that's a sensitive part of the body) just like giving him a bloody nose! :boxing_smiley: :the_finger:

How quickly we forget when we jump on our yack and push out into the big blue, that we are entering the food chain.
