This looks like it would work well for a rod leash.

Jeff, I think 10 lbs might be a little light for a rod leash, but then again I could be wrong.

Most reels are under 2 lbs. in weight and I would think the rods are about the same or lighter?

I would think it is stronger than those homemade leashes made out of phone cords.

If the equipment you are trying to protect is valuable, then don't go cheap on your leash. Your leash should be at least strong enough to keep your rod attached to your yak that is tumbling away in the surf.

Get this instead. It's $1 more and made of solid wire. It also coils which you'd be surprised, but it help A LOT
