Hey guys.
Go like us on facebook for more up to date details.
www.facebook.com/rockfishderby

We are in talks with some big name sponsors about getting some big ticket items, and we have been making some serious headway in the way of sponsors. If we can show a very large expectation of anglers, we will be more likely to secure bigger prizes.

Seeker Rods has agreed to Headline and has donated TWELVE sticks. Yes, one dozen rods. These rods will be custom wrapped by JeffB and his partner!
They have shown me their design and I think you guys are going to love them

On top of that, I just talked to Hobie and they are providing us with enough swag for 200 Anglers .
Kevin is doing big things over there to help us out.

See below for a list of all the sponsors we have gotten to commit, it hasn't been updated in a few days, but I will be modifying it periodically.

The official rules are still being worked on, but I'll give you the cliff notes of where we are, and what plans we have.

Please do not hold me to any of these with any sort of legal binding contract nonsense. Things do change. However, the price most likely will not.

March 1st. Lines in 6am-6pm Banquet March 2nd 12pm-3pm (aprox)
Entry fee will be $50 - Includes Angler Only Raffle ticket, Meal, Entry, Tshirt, Swag Bag
Looks like we can award prizes to the top 10 kayaks. If we get more items, the more we can prize out. First 3 places can expect Rods, gaffs and some other nice items. 5-10th can expect gift certificates and swag items.
Fishing will be limited to US waters
There will be a certified weigh station at LJ
Kayakers have an additional 90 minutes if they choose to fish elsewhere, but need to make it to a weight station. However, they must check in Saturday morning
Weight stations will be SD Bay, Mission Bay, LJ
There will be two raffles. Every angler will be entered into a special drawing only for anglers. There will be a separate raffle that anyone, including guests can buy into.
Raffle items will be pretty nice. More rods, gaffs, sunglasses, clothes, roof racks, artwork, swag, coupons, gift certificates ect.
Kayakers are eligible to win the WHOLE thing, similar to the Open Bay Bass. If a guy on plastic can out-fish 50+ boats he deserves the whole prize pool
Remember this is not a sanctioned HOW event, however we are working on being able to pair sponsor kayaks with wounded warriors. We still have some legal stuff to work out.
Can't compete? Kayak got a leak? Volunteer. Every bit of help to lighten the load helps. We will be doing special volunteer shirts as a thank you to anyone who donates their time
All the tournament entry fees from the kayak division will be donated to Heroes on the Water. The boaters entry fees will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
We have a combined fundraising goal of $10,000
We haven't secured the venue yet, but we are in talks with some places. Expect it to be in the Dana Landing/Shelter Island area
We are expecting professional photographers to attend the event and will have a gallery for anyone to download their photos
The original intention was for a captains meeting on the friday before hand to give out swag bags and host a seminar on the safe handling and release of rockfish not intended for harvest. However, we are probably going to scratch this idea and do a seminar by way of a youtube video.
There will be a Saturday morning checking in, and swag bag pickup. There will be an option for friday night too
Anyone who is unable to attend the award banquet because of scheduling/distance can still claim their angler raffle prize if they win by way of proxy.
Depending on the turn out, I'll see about getting popup tents set up at or very near LJ, with catered food. That way anyone who wants to come in for lunch can come chow down and mingle.

This is about it for now. Sorry if it's a little scrambled, I've been working on this project by myself for two straight weeks with no sleep. I will update it as more details come to mind.

Please just post if you will be attending, how many you are attending with and your level of certainty. No, Maybe, Almost certain, Absolutely 100%

Also, if you have any concerns or suggestions, please send them to me in a PM or post them up.

Thanks guys
Here are our current sponsors and still growing. Still have a few to add.

I can't wait for this one.

So you did say that there will be weigh stations at LJ, Mission Bay, and SD Bay? Can we get exact landings for the weigh stations?

Thank you for your service. If you're back in time, but don't have a kayak, don't sweat it. You can use mine. :cheers1:

Hi Drake, I'm not sure if my info got put in, but I'll definitely be at the tournament. I can fish or volunteer on land. Whatever is needed. I can loan out my PA12 and gear. I'm in Orange County and haven't fished San Diego.
You can contact me at 1-714-981-7774 Thanks. Jim. Is a map coming?

Are single man teams ok?

Drake
01-26-2014, 08:09 PM
Kayaks compete as single man teams, but there is nothing wrong with working together. However, everyone must weight their own fish
