West Marines online store has both the lowrance elite 5 gold and the elite 5 gold dsi on sale for 349.99. I'm getting ready to order and not sure if I'm reading this right. I assumed the dsi would cost more?

I don't know how I'll be mounting the transducer just yet but i know I'll need the ducer In the water if I'm using the dsi. Do any of you have any cool innovative ways of mounting your transducers in the water without something hanging over the side of your kayak creating drag.
lowrance scupper mount (http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Paddlesports/) should work.
I'm in the market for a new FF thanks for the heads up

Dsi Scupper mount works just fine. I have e5 gold dsi. I stay in less than 100 feet of water at all times though. If you go deep, I've heard dsi become ineffective.

I just returned a mark 4 DSI I do not recommend the DSI for saltwater applications over 50' deep, tried adjusting freq and brightness very difficult to pick up bottom structure in deep water, in shallow water it was awesome incredible detail.

I picked the gold unit from west marine. I have used it twice and am happy with it. I read somewhere on here about issue with dsi. They have or had them in stock at the Newport store. When I purchased mine two weeks ago.

I vote for the DSI, I really like the Down and side imaging, but when depths get beyond 100' you also have to learn how to read the regular fish finding systems. If you rely only on the Down and Side imaging, you're missing out.
If you have the money go for the DSI.

Yeah I got pretty good at reading standard sonar with the humminbird 386ci. If I can't find a used hds 5 then I'll get the elite 5 hdi and just use standard in deep water.

I basically in the same boat as you
Looking for the best deal for a FF close to 350$
I was going to go elite 5 non dsi only because what I have read is dsi gets very sensitive in salt and with swells. Also limited to 200ft
I'm still looking and reading trying to figure this stuff out so I can make the best descision possible.

Have you looked at any of the humminbird or garmin units? I know even less about them but from what I've researched it looks like they have some comparable units in this price range. I just have been focusing on lowrance b because it seems to be the crowd favorite and what people have the most knowledge of. I used a humminbird 386ci for a bit andi liked it but I'm trying to get something witha more detailed structure image in deep water and not sacrifice having a gps
