So I'm about sick of my 8+ft Sabiki rod. Is there anyone out there that has the shorter one and wants to trade or knows someone that can shorten the one I have?

I shortened mine. Very easy to do, Right where the two pieces come together i cut off about 6" of the upper rod so that it will slide into the lower section. Use some JB weld to secure the two. Have not had any problems for over 2 years. Then you just need to cut down your sabiki rigs to fit.

Why use a sabiki rod when you've got plenty of rods just sitting there in your garage? I know, I know, "but what do I do when I'm about to launch/land my kayak?" Its pretty simple, take the sabiki or squid jigs off and put them away.....you'd be surprised how handy those sun glass cases are. Look for a light action rod and a small bait casting reel and you're set.

After I brew beer I have these vials left over from the yeast. They are watertight and compact. They work great for hooks and stuff. Especially sabiki rigs

Years ago, I bought my first 8 ft. Sabiki rod on the web. I sent it back because it felt too long. Then I saw a 7 footer at the Fred Hall Show. I bought it and I love it.

<O:p</O:pUnless you have enjoyed the convenience of using one, you would not appreciate the rod. I mostly have used it at the piers, but it is most suited for boat and most definitely kayaks.<O:p</O:p

We cut the 8 footers down to around 5 foot, like the method described except instead of jb weld we coat em with marine goop. Keep in mind with the shorter rod you need to cut down your sabikis too, or they will not fit inside when not in use.
