On my last La Jolla trip I was pedaling hard against the current and ran over some kelp without seeing it. It gummed up the Mirage drive while I was pushing and I think I either stretched something or maybe pushed something out of adjustment.

What's happening is that when I pedal down with my right foot and up with my left, there is a "Thunk" sound like a chain missing a cog or something. I've looked at the chains and cogs and cables and everything seems fine, nothing bent that I can see.

Any suggestions or should I just take it down to Andy at OEX for a once over?

Better safe than sorry, I'd take it to Andy to have him look it over. Not worth fouling it up and end having to buy a new drive.

That happens when your drive hits your hull ;)
Kidding but I would look at the black half cone shaped piece that covers the chain or the teeth holding the chains. It could also be the cable. Either way, x2 on bringing it to someone who knows how to repair the drives if you don't.

If you have an early model Mirage Drive unit (pre-click), you'd get that "thunk" sound when one of the locking cam would loosen.

From what your saying it sounds like thru drive sprocket, go see Andy for parts pretty simple fix on your own. Mine looked fine until I pulled it out. See the photos in the link below.
