So I was out Rockfishing at NPH and my HDS5 acted up. It would only read water temp. Depth was all over and sometimes blank. It was basically not reading anything down. I called lowrance and very unhelpful guy answered and told me that I need a new transducer. So anybody have any idea what might be causing this?
Thank you!

How are your contacts?

Douse the plug and jack with a good contact cleaner. Vinegar works but not as well as commercial electrical contact cleaner. Lube it with dielectric grease and try again. Make sure no broken pins in jack. How do you have the xducer mounted

Where can you get contact cleaner? My transducer is mounted on the ram mount on the side of the kayak. It worked until last Saturday. After I got back home I did the usual thing. Just wash in running water and store.
I will try contact cleaner and grease
Thanks!

Radio shack. Expensive for a tiny bit. If there is corrosion it will bubble like peroxide on a wound

Man, the same thing was happening to my 7HDI! Chart plotter was fine, temp was good, depth was bouncing and the image (sounder) was pretty much blank..wonder how long the warranty is.
