Hey guys, wondering if anyone had ever run into this problem, or knows what this may be caused by. I have a lowrance elite 5 hdi unit that I am getting vertical lines spread through out the screen. The lines area sometimes there, and sometimes not. When they do appear, I don't lose any quality of picture on my screen, but they are an annoyance. They also clutter the screen. Adjusting the sensitivity does not help when the problem occurs. The transducer is mounted in a lowrance ready bay, however I had the same problems on my last kayak, while the ducer was on a ram ball mount. Could this have something to do with wiring? Interference from something since it comes and goes? Bad unit? I will take a screen shot of the FF next time I am out if I cannot figure out the problem by then.

Thanks

Was there another ff on anywhere near you?

You could try a few things when this happens
1. turn the ping speed down
2. turn noise to a higher setting
3. turn off any other electronics

2 other yaks with FF within 30 yards. Sometimes closer. I google image searched lowrance interference and this came up, and looks exactly like my screen when it plagues me

I have tried adjusting ping speed, have also tried unplugging and plugging. Could my VHF do this somehow?

Its the other sounders that are near you. I get the same try changing the frequency to 200hz or 83hz or 50hz or di only if you have it.

The deeper the water the further away you will have to be from other sounders.

Thanks for the response, this may help some other people as well. I am wondering why they weren't complaining of their units acting up.

throw something at the nearest yak . i agree with changing ping speed or frequency . one possibility is wake or turbulent waters . possibly from your prop wash , like when running at high speeds . you can more than likely eliminate this from the equation if floating on a plastic vessel .:) . i am still in the middle of watching this video from dr. sonar , so i could be wrong . it's like using a local guide to try and advance your learning curve . pm me if any locals want to check it out . I have the smaller elite4 hdi I noticed when I was within 50yrds of my buddy (linglifter) I had the same thing happen. This was in 120ft of water during my last LJ trip.
I'm using a lowrance scupper mount.

When we would split up the signal cleared up.

Thanks guys. I have a feeling that the nearby ducer is the culprit. Will make the other guys I fish with, change frequency. 😁

That makes sense, last time I was outside Newport some yahoo came by wearing a sheepskin while "baaaing" and my signal got funky. As soon as he paddled over to another group of kayakers the signal cleared right up.

Absolutely it's interfence from other sounders. You just have to deal with it or change the frequency, that's often not a good option!
