I invited my dad to go down to Baja. He flew out from Minnesota and we took off in the middle of the night to meet a few others at Dennys in Calexico to run down together. My dad suffered his first heart attack 2 years younger than I am now and has had a couple more heart attacks and a stroke. He is 77 and still kicking ass :D I had a great time with him. I got to hear stories from jungle warfare training in Panama in the 60s to elk hunts in Idaho. He was even gored in the thigh by a big buck 10 years ago. We reminisced about all the fishing and hunting trips we have shared together and I even heard him drop a few F bombs for the first time ever. :D We battled some wind and it got a little hot at times, we managed to catch some good fish and ate fish every day there. I'd go back tomorrow if I could. Whale sharks were every where Great bunch of guys to hang out with as usual. Gracias a Dios!

Looks like you guys rocked it too. We were 10 miles north of you with the same conditions. No big fish this time, but still lot's of fish and fun. Baja, Baja. Nice pictures. Full moon too.

WOW WOW WOW!!!

The music, the scenery, and the romance.

Best of all: it's totally in pure and simple pics.

I was sucked in the moment I hit the play button!

Never been the Gonzaga Bay, but I'm stowing away with
you guys next year.

(I've already grabbed a few pics for my screen saver)

Looks insane down there. Salty group of guys you were there with too. Great reminder to seize the day, and to spend as much time with loved ones as you can.

Awesome pics too. If there weren't a few fish pics in there I'd think you were auditioning as a freelance photog for National Geographic.

Good stuff all around :luxhello:

My Pop is going on 80 and while he's still in relatively good health, I'm sad to say our fishing days are in the past. He loves seeing the pictures of me on the water but is still trying to figure out the whole idea of fishing from a kayak thing.

Thanks for sharing your trip. It looks like it was awesome!
I hope you and your dad have plenty more trips together.

:cheers1:

More than the fishing... creating those memories with your Dad is priceless!!!
Unfortunately, I lost my Dad way to early (he was only 63) but probably some of the best memories I had with him was when we spent time together fishing. He wasn't as "addicted" as I am about fishing, but he enjoyed it. There was a lot that we didn't see eye to eye about as a young man growing up... but we put all that aside when we fished together... it was "our moment" to bond... I miss him everyday. Cherish those moments with your loved ones, for they are gone way too soon!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us Andy... what a great trip that must've been. Beautiful shots by the way... amazing photos.

Here are a couple stills from my Go Pro. We encountered several whale sharks every day out there on the water. I regret not jumping in the water with one!

Charles said it right. Very sneaky with that camera. Since my ex wife still thinks I am still in Viet Nam, I don't like any pictures taken of me. Doesn't look like I could be ID'd very easily. Great trip as always with that bunch. Will add some more stuff when I get unpacked.

Ross, sounds like everyone is back safe and sound :D the 50-200mm lens is looking to be ideal for capturing candid shots :D

I won't say that Monday morning had a fullspeed birdschool on grouper, yellows, sierra, and barracuda right off the tip of verga de caballo.

I will say we overstayed our welcome and got caught w/ our pants down out at the island. Left a painfully brutal slog back to camp going 1.5mph at full power. Ouch.

My most memorable fish:

final morning, hard to get up as the wind had howled most of the night and slept like shit. My dad and I ventured south behind Dave and Ken. We ended up with a few missed bites and no fish that quick session. The sea turtles and whale sharks made up for the lack of fish on our farewell morning.

Thank you Iceman for recognizing the ultimate fishing partner! My dad is 78 and in spite of two major heart attacks he is going strong. My best friend and fishing partner. One day, I will get with Makobob and company, and get my @$$ to Baja!
