I got this e-mail today about our upcoming release of the WSB at our Redondo grow out tanks...

"Today we did weight and length of 100 fish. This is prep of release. I want to thank Hubbs for a great batch of fish again. Our losses have been low and some been caused maybe by our grow out. But as a team we have a great out come.

We will release fish 8/2/2014, 10 AM till 3PM or later. Will release fish at F dock. We'll need a bunch of help as always on release but its fun to see our teenage fish leave home. It takes more work to release than to receive but to me you receive more back. Will net fish at pools and sluice to tanks on truck to release into harbor."

Tony (ful-rac) and Greg Andrews were at the last release and were a lot of fun (and help). If anybody has the time or wants a fun experience for the kids, come on down to the Sea Lab on Harbor Drive. It's in Redondo in King Harbor across the street from the power plant right near the end of 190th street. Tell the parking attendant you're there for the WSB release and parking should be free. We net about 6 to 10 fish at a time and walk them to a tank on a truck then drive the truck about 100yds to F dock and set up a hose and a pump, then send them on their way! It's fun if Tony isn't in charge of the hose.

I plan to get some net from Promar and make some better PVC/net crowders to help trap those little devils.
So how did Greg get wet?

He put himself in the line of fire....shit we all did!

It'll be fun! Gotta give back a little for all we take.

Nice work guys! Our fish in Channel Islands are growing faster than expected and will be releasing between end of July to mid august.

I put this on my calendar and hopefully should be able to make it with my two boys unless wife has other ideas.

Highly likely I will be there again. A couple things I noticed from last year: The tanks are in a tight area that has lots of obstacles. You have to be able to reach over the tanks to see and net the fish. You should be at least somewhat nimble and sure footed (gets wet quick). Our biggest obstacle last year was keeping a flow to the netting with little kids and older folks that held up the single file line. You will get wet, so be prepared.
