Come on Guys!!!!!

SoCal Heroes on the Water is entirely volunteer le and supported through money raised at events such as these. The money raised is used to get Vets in kayaks, and cover the expenses of equipment and veteran events. We host approximately eight veterans events throughout the year and without funding we cannot provide this service to our nations heroes.

You are going to be fishing anyhow, please support Heroes on the Water and sign up now!

With the amount of anglers down here this even should be as big as the cambria slam. If I wasn't away already I would join as well.

Like you said your going to be fishing anyhow, may as well so it for a good cause as well as better company.

Andy I heard that the Wilderness kayak would be the winners choice, even the new THRESHER, but they NEEDED 50 paid entries to give one away. Can you confirm that rumor please?

Confirming on numbers however as of right now. The more entries the better the prizes, with how few are signed up right now I simply cant justify getting a boat for this event over one that could draw 100+ and raise a lot more money for HOW. At 50 people we are basically better off giving a boat to HOW than as a prize as it would raise less than the boats value. I would really like to see 75 people but at 50 we will get a Wildy boat of some sort, whether it is of the winners choice may be another story.

I find it hard to believe how many are not going to make it because they are going to be in Arizona. I used to go to Dove season opener also, but that is on the 1st of September. When I went I took the time off work because past the first 3 days the hunting slows down so much. To go the following weekend when it's more crowded and less birds, does not make muck sense. I would rather be in La Jolla out on the water about 78 degree temperature than in Arizona 112 degree and humid, And that's if there aren't any thunder storms pushing the remaining birds down to Mexico. Come on Guys Fish La Jolla for a good cause and hit Arizona on the 1st or on the second weekend.

2 things. George, that's a big reason I got rid of my PA 14; and, I was wondering when I'd see Patrick on the water...

I bought my PA14 the day before the rock fish derby, since that day I have only made 2 surf launches. I fish every weekend, literally every weekend......wait, I think I skipped one weekend because I was out of town. If I include the weekends or trips when I fished twice multiple days that means that I've fished roughly 25-30 times since I bought my PA, that means that roughly 93% of the time I do not need to do a surf launch.................that's how I justify it. So far I'm 1 for 2 on the surf launches/landings, lets see how this weekend treats me:D

As far as Patrick goes, I heard he might end up launching this weekend, the surf is predicted to be at 1'.

Sorry Yanni, can't make Saturday. This vertigo is killing me. Every time I move my head I get the spins.driving the car sucks too. I tried the bay on a flat day and it was all i could do to not go over. I hope to be on the water soon.

When I'm ok, I don't mind surf as long as the intervals are long enough that I can get on the yak. Two bad knees and a bad hip make it a tricky process that takes time for me. Never going to give it up though!

Even though some who signed up aren't going to be able to make it, the list looks so much better. George thanks for re-posting that video again. I laughed almost as hard as I did the first time it was up after the Rock Fish Tournament. George I didn't notice it the first time I saw it but why where you back paddling in the surf. It just kept you in the middle longer. Just remember the rudder is useless once the wave catches you, so keep paddling or drag the paddle in the water when the kayak is trying to turn, in order to keep it straight. You should make it OK this time. If not I'm sure Tony will be there with his GO PRO. See you on Saturday. Tight Lines Mark.

How much does OEX charge for an angler package that day for veterans? My navy buddy might be interested in going.

1. Robert Moore
2 Charles Wittenberg
3. Eric Noonan
4. Jorge L Villegas:D:D3 weeks ago we only had 4 entries, this made it really hard to hit up sponsors for prizes. We considered pulling the plug, but decided to stick with it, confident that we would make a worth while contribution to Heroes on the Water. Thanks to everyone's generosity we currently have over $1000 to give to HOW and I will cut a check for the final number and present to HOW tomorrow.

Lacking in sponsored prizes OEX has added a few from our inventory to round things out.

BIG thanks to everyone who has entered and especially those that entered knowing they would not be there :luxhello:

Prizes will be given to the over all biggest fish, who will also win their division as well, biggest YT, biggest WSB, biggest halibut, "other" consisting of sheephead, ling cod, white fish or rock fish.

Over all winner will receive the custom rod wrapped by Skrilla
Biggest yellowtail will win a Werner Hooked Tybee Paddle and custom gaff
Biggest white seabass will win a Pisces PFD and battery box
Biggest halibut will win an OEX Ultimate tank
Biggest other category will win palm sculpted fish

Any category not filled will be raffled per angler number, you do not need to be present to win raffle.

We also have some crowd tossing sharp hooked eye pokers! give aways :D:jig:

We will be serving fish tacos (Thanks Tony!)starting at noon, make sure you are in line to weigh your fish by 1pm! see the map link at the top of this post.

Not sure if you are looking for a rental kayak, if so it would need to be taken care of today.

Keep in mind that there are no walk ups, he is more than welcome to fish and enjoy the tacos at the park with out entering, but prepaid $25 to enter goes right to HOW minus $1.05 payal fee. Cut off is midnight tonight!

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow. I'll be camping with the family this week so can't make it. Looking forward to the videos and pics. Tight lines....

Since the new Outbacks are not out yet, I know I had some extra $ I could contribute to this cause (in memory of a couple of close high school friends who never came back from Nam) and for those that have come back from serving with various challenges. :(

It turned out to be a beautiful day at La Jolla. The surf was smaller than average and the clouds cleared early. Bait was around but greenbacks where hard to find. Afterwards at Stanley Park the Halibut fish tacos where awesome. Thank You Tony P., for the fish donation. Thank You Skrilla, for the Custom Rod and Gaff donation. The first place award for biggest fish was also largest WSB caught by Greg Barnicoat 50lbs. Largest Yellow Tail was 18.2 lbs, largest Hali was 36.4 lbs and the Rock Fish category was won by a 1.8 lbs Boccaccio. Another Great event for a great cause (Heroes on the Water) Thank You to all who couldn't participate but donated anyway. Thank You, to all the guys from OEX for all they do.

Had fun. Slow fishing for me. Anyone find a gaff? I think I dropped it when loading up for the picnic.
