Weird windy morning. Steady breeze out of the NW all morning made for sloppy AM conditions. Didn't feel fishy for anything except bottom critters. Couple of scarred bottom baits had me drifting sand for most of the morning, but nothing ever managed to chew where the hook was, at least for me.

Can't always get them.:( I had an invite to fish this morning and couldn't make it. Sounds like I wasn't missing much. You'll get em next time.

I was out this morning as well. Bait-o-plenty north of the pier ('dines, mini spanish, and greenies at the pier). Stayed in shallow most of the morning, seemed fishy but no such luck.. I'll be at it again tomorrow after work.

Hope it picks up for this weekend. I've been skunked the last few trips out there and am ready for something good! Any predictions for Sunday's conditions?

It will be a hot bite day if I'm not on the water.:D

So you're not going out there on Sunday right? :D

Weekend forecast looks good and we are swinging into a new moon. The hot local tuna bite should thin out the boat traffic, and the tourney Sat will probably make for lighter crowds Sunday. Looks ideal, so all in all I'd say it will probably be totally dead.lol

Good incoming tide Sunday morning, little surf, sunny and warm, warm water. Brad's right it will suck. Everyone should stay off the water.

Maggie,

Your problem is your first two trips out you get a YT and a Thresher. Hard to keep up with that average.

I just checked the counts...Well the Dolphin and New Seaforth were getting them this morning, the two boats combined for 30 yellowtail on the am half day. They're still fishing La Jolla right? I wouldn't know for sure since I haven't gone in around two weeks now since its been so slow...If so, how come the party boats can catch yellows but we can't?

I think it's a matter of chumming capability. Where you out there this morning?

They weren't getting the yellows first thing in front of the condo. They pulled anchor and headed out west about a mile or two around 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. That's probably where they struck paydirt.

No, I haven't been out for a couple of weeks because it's been so slow. I think iron in the outer edges of the party boat chum slicks is the way to go right now though...as long as you don't get too close.

I tried the iron fairly close to the parties boats in the PM a couple of weeks ago and got two nice hits from yellows, but neither bite stuck. One of the bites was extremely close to my kayak, so I actually saw the yellowtail.

Diving might be a good idea right now too...

You just got to get out there and fish... The point may be slow but big fish were being caught over the last week. Not for me, but for others. If you wait until it's good, your probably going to miss it.. Good luck
