can't believe you mentioned Solana beach... that's like talking about WSB in the Cardiff kelp.. or halibut off Carlsbad...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Oceanside harbor for yellowtail.

At least if you launch at Solana........and land intact....well, in mine opinion, you earned it. That area is tricky, I know of at least one mirage drive lost in the surf there. But then again, it could be flat as a lake on any given day.

half the board couldn't make it through the Carlsbad surf on a calm day. :D forget coming back in. and before you think of it, trying to ride an outgoing tide through the outlet to the lagoon IS NOT a good idea. ... :D

I remember reading about that...they came back with goggles and fins and found his gear. And I couldn't agree more on the opinion about launching...I laugh so hard watching people try to launch when the sets are pushing through. Patience is key, that current rips out of the lagoon....and there is no channel when going out that way...that would have made for good filming.
My favorite is collecting all the gear people loose when launching...then hand it back to them out on the fishing grounds. Most of the time they have not even realized they lost their gear.
