Thrift stores are your friend. We have one in our neighborhood that gets quality items donated. I bought collectible tennis racquets, vintage jewelry for my wife and mid-century barware. Yesterday I went in and there weren't any racquets but there was a Yamaha surround sound receiver. It wasn't in the box but was unused. I looked up the model and it originally sold $1,100. They have them at Overstock.com for $599.99 refurbished. I got this for $75. I hooked it up to some Klipsch speakers I bought for $20 at a garage sale. My wife came into the room as I was cranking the volume. She gave me that "Holy SH!t" look followed by a big smile.

Scored some Japanese hand planes and a few old Stanleys for $5, one of the Japanese planes is hand forged, stamped by the maker and worth over $700. Had no idea of it's worth when I picked it up at a garage sale.
