Fishing Trip Advice- Catalina

So my gf knows im a fishing addict lol and she bought me and her a 3/4 day fishing trip out of newport harbor aboard the Freelance i believe. Its was a groupon and i just need to use it before june 4th. i have no idea how the fishing is over there, never been ocean fishing north of La Jolla. My thinking was to wait till like June 1st to get some warmer water and better chance of a yellow or something on the surface iron. Even if i cant get a pelagic, i just want my gf's first ocean trip to be an enjoyable one with good action. So she'll buy me trips like this more often lol :cool: thanks for the help guys!

If you want to enjoy fishing out of Newport go during the off season... Don't wait till bite picks up..

Wait till rock fish season opens and go on a weekday. Do not go on a weekend!

Pack boat and tangle lines so bring extra sinkers and hooks.

Good to know. Yea we will most likely go on a weekday to try and avoid the bulk of people.

Yup.. Tried it once and never again.. Once the bite picks up everyone rushes to use their groupon including weekdays..

Can't do anything about it now since you already have the voucher but may as well enjoy being on the water. For me catching a fish but being miserable cause of crowds and idiots on the boat is still not worth it..
