Hobie will replace my warranteed 2011 Outback with a 2015 Outback hull w/one year warrantee for a little over $500. The short warrantee is because the 2011's is almost gone. This is great news, I still have to buy the NEW Vantage seat but I wind up getting the NEW 2015 for about a grand!!!! Talk about GREAT customer service, waiting to see how long it will be, but I get to use the old one until the new one is ready. Could never ask a company for more or better service. THANK YOU HOBIE!

what was wrong with the 2011?
There was a small crack, leaking water in the drive well. Below the water line.

YES Alan a 4 year old kayak, a HOBIE, this Mercedes has caught THOUSANDS of fish, for about $250 a YEAR! That to me is a steal to replace, NOT REPAIR it for under a GRAND. Might just be karma? Oh half of that is the NEW VANTAGE seat.

right? That's an awesome deal!! Especially when you consider the fact that the kayak was 4years old and had a seat that sucked. Now Bob has a new kayak with a killer seat and he only paid a $1k. That's what I call A++ customer service:luxhello::luxhello:

hobie makes great products and good upkeep, and a very small warranty window.
Its always a great company when they can take more money out of you and make you feel all good inside.
hope you get to keep your old mirage drive for that price!

I would put Hobies warranty against any other kayak warranty, of course I keep the old drive, but my wife got me a new Blue fin for christmas, so I have two drives for it, gives me a spare when we go to Baja. Again karma? What goes around, comes around?

One hell of a deal. Forget what the others say. Hobie makes a great product and there is a reason there is a cult following. Me included. You would be crazy not to jump on that deal!! Good on you!!!!!

Hey Bob, what did you do with the new Thresher?
I remember how "stoked" (:D :luxhello: :D) you were about getting it just before one of your last trips to Gonzaga last year and breaking it in.
What happened, the "honeymoon" over? :(

I like the Thresher, but I bought it for surf launches as it is great for that. But I have owned 5 Hobies so far and they are still my GO TO for most trips.

Looks like the thrasher will be put on the shelf, or maybe you can leave it in Baja so you don't have to haul a yak back and forth. If so you can ow ride down there with me.

Been three weeks since Hobie said yes. New yak should arrive April/May.
LONG wait is due to the fact that the 2015 Outback is so popular that dealers are having to wait to order more. Tight lines.

Thanks Josh, I feel we all deserve this kind of service from every company we buy products from. But then we would have to pay that premium.

I heard a saying, the poor man buys twice. I do believe some things are worth paying a high premium for. Being in the firearms industry I know which companies have OUTSTANDING service, and those who don't. When I sell a firearm I always let people know which ones are worth spending that extra couple hundred on because they will take care of you in the long run. I have not worked with Hobie but from what I have seen they take care of their people. One of the many reasons I love working with Wilderness Systems because they take care of their people as well. Glad they are taking care of you Bob as I said before your a great dude and deserve it.
SorryCharlie

I totally agree with how awesome Hobie treats is customers.
The only reason MakoBob is paying 500$ is because it is so late in the warranty period. I had a crack in my 2012 nearly a year ago, and Hobie had a brand spanking new 2014 ready for me in about a week at no cost! Sadly no awesome 2015 seat, but I will take the easy FF install over nothing!
MakoBob, one thing I will mention is STRIP that kayak hull down! Hobie does not care about getting anything back but the hull (make sure not to damage the serial number, that's the only thing they actually care about), when mine was replace I took EVERYTHING.... Hatches, bungies, rigging, if it could be easily removed.... it was.
Enjoy the new ride!
