I'm just checking on the items a man should prioritize for hs entry into chasing fish at La Jolla. I've got the Hobie, basic safety items. In order of preference I'm looking at the following, VHS radio, pump, fish finder, sea/drift bag?.
I've got a couple of good rods, couple of good Trinadads, mostly need time and tips.
Thanks for any help, mostly a fly fisherman but I'm willing to try anything to put fresh fish on the table

Get a good gaff and game clip if you want to target and land bigger fish.

Kiwigrant,
You picked the right sport!!
Forget the drift bag. Especially since you have a hobie.
The idea is this, on a windy day, the drift bag allows you to drift slowly
over a particular spot, like a reef. But you already own a drift bag, it's
called a Hobie. Just point it into the wind a peddle just
enough to slow your drift. How easy is that?
For this coming yellowtail season you'll need a dedicated pole
and rig (sabiki) to catch bait fish, macks. You'll need a rod and
reel for live bait, and finally a rod and reel to cast a surface iron.
Mastering those rigs and their usage will keep you busy and happy.
Good Luck, Yanni

Thank you, good tips, I take it a sabiki rig/ rod is just a light weight rod reel combo, I have a 20 lb rod and reel that I think would be good for live bait and the 30 lb set up for irons, I do have a couple of light rigs for bait.
Thanks again
