Guys,

This is the kayak i have.

You can see that there are cords along the sides running the length of the yak. They are advertised as side paddle holders, I think.

Forgive my ignorance, but how would one hold their paddle in there? What else would you use these cords for? I'm asking because my yak has the hooks, but the cords are gone and I was thinking of replacing them, IF they served a purpose.

Look like hook catchers. Get a paddle leash instead

Useless unless you have a pedal kayak. When I used to paddle and I hooked up I usually just throw the paddle off to the opposite side. It goes with out saying that I have it tethered when I do that

You can also use them as a place to park your gaff during a fight.

There's a hook on top of the gunwale. Lay your paddle along the gunwale outside the hook and pull the bungee up and over the paddle into the hook. Doesn't look well designed but that's what they were going for.

thanks for the replies you guys. i already have my heavy oars tethered, so maybe i won't be adding these bungees.

also, thanks for teaching me what gunwhale means. and yes, in the pic i see how the paddle holder would work. I have to check if i have that same hook on my yak, because I don't seem to remember it being there.
