*If you guys want to team up together since you're
on a shorter trip, that's O.K.

Everyone should bring your own fixings for breakfast and lunch. This allows you to decide if you want to hit the water first thing in the morning or stay and cook a breakfast. Lunches, you decide to come ashore or take it with you, your choice bring your own.

I will bring fixings for 3 breakfasts. Breakfast burritos. Resturant is open so someone could do dinner there if they did not want to cook for the crew. You supply fish and it is $5 per person for the set up.

I am doing a shrimp pasta and salad on my night. WHAT are YOU fixing for your NIGHT???

Hey Walrus! Sorry for lagging on my response. Captain distracto here! Haha! I was debating on going or not.
As you know Momo will not be carpooling with me, so I decided to just go and drive alone unless someone wants to jump in my vehicle. I was planning to leave with Bob and the gang on the 24th and return on the 28th with the other two gentlemen. I hope I haven't thrown too much of a wrench in your plans. Otherwise, I'm flexible to cook any other day. Again, sorry for my delayed response, I would gladly barter a 12 pack of beer to trade that day with someone. :-D

I just wanted to add, if I'm throwing off everyone's plans too much, please just tell me and I would respectfully sit this one out.
Best,
Mike.

BAD NEWS guys. JUST got in from Gonzaga. Good news first, Cabrilla and snapper DIED. Took panga to island, found NO FLIES!!!!! Back at camp we still have 35-50 lb ROOSTERS hanging around the beach. Toe they took is healing well. Bad news is got blister on toe next in from it. That toe rolled over to open area next to missing one. Blister broke before I found it. It should heal just fine.
24-30 June trip is going to be great. If you want camp fire bring a bundle of wood. The temps ARE going to be HOT!!...HOT. Bring LOTS of fluids for your drinking pleasure.

Two weeks and counting. Things are looking good and you are getting excited,
fish are waiting too. Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are all must haves. Bring a cup/glass your silverware metal or plastic. Other items we will need are firewood, paperplates for all, and 4 small stove cannisters. We have pots and pans and cook ware, bring a fellet knife and sharpner, these are tough fish. If you plan on frying fish please bring oil, it spoils fast in this climate so do not overload or plan on taking it back with you. If you bring your electronics you will need your chargers, and a strip to plug into the generator. We usually run the genny 3-4 hrs a night. I reccomend long sleeve shirts for sun protection but it is your call. BRING DRINKING WATER. BLOCK ice lasts longer. I do not know of a tackle store within miles, so bring what you need. WIRE LEADERS are needed if the sierra macks show up. Kroks, spoons, repalas deep divers 15-30 feet. Yo Zuris, plastics, kastmasters all work along with any iron you have. Tight lines. Radio for contact, life preservers, game clips, gaffs, billy, your usual gear. See you soon, PS do not forget your yak or drive.

About a week out. We will be meeting on the 24th of June at Johnnys Shell station in El Cajon at 5 am. Address is 515 N. Magnolia Ave, just off the 8.
If we are all on time we should have lots of time for an afternoon session. Fishing should be awesome, remember your mask and fins for some added viewing pleasure. Tight lines.

We have no pictures, so all I can't talk about the fishing.

The water was 85 degrees.
One night of heavy rain.
Most days the temperature was around 82-84 degrees. It got up to 97 for a couple of hours.
The cafe is great.
Lots of Jellyfish around, so lots an lazy turtles also.
I can hardly wait to get back down there, counting the days, maybe? I'll take a camera this time.

Walrus.

Hey gr8fuldude,

October should be outstanding, you won't be disappointed. We did see lots of huge bait fish schools in the area, and most of the pelagics hadn't shown up yet, just the fat locals hanging around. Don't worry there were no problems catching fish to bring home.

No picts. Day before we got there a kid caught a ROOSTERFISH from the beach on a top water plug. Rumored to have weighed 50#. We caught lot's of fish, just none with bragging rights.

Here's the rooster caught on a ranger lure down by the point. This was my first time to that area and I loved it. Will definitely be going back. As mentioned above, lots of fish, but nothing crazy. Except the rooster.

Any chance of seeing the lure?

I hope to go in October, and any advise would be helpful.

Thanks again Bob, for the invite to the area, I was with a few down the beach from you. My son caught the rooster, and it was a blast watching and filming it!! Thanks for your hospitality, we never made it back to say thanks, we were too busy watching you guys paddling and took a panga out our last day. Tons of BIG triggers, not much else. Super fun though, we will go back and try again. Love the area, easy drive compared to Loreto, and just as beautiful!! Thanks, Jim.

It was a ranger lure, just google it and see images. Great for roosterfish, reel as fast as you can and it skips across the water, and casts a mile. Tied straight to braid no problem.
