Not really paying attention, BIG mistake. Coming back fron San Quintin, in the groove, doing 65 mph when it should have been 50. Come around a corner and BAM. There is a Policia Federal with a radar gun in hand, he waves me over.
License and registration. He speaks very broken english. Talks about 5 minutes, Finally asks how often I come to Baja, told him I had 120 days there last year, he asked how mony speeding tickets, told him the truth NONE, we were both respectful and non confrontational, I kept my eyes down and he said keep it to under 60 the rest of the way PLEASE. Let me go with a verbal warning. I could hardly believe it, I thanked him and he said in his broken english, that I had not insulted him by trying to bribe him and had shown him RESPECT. There were 2 more speed traps in the next 80 miles, needless to say I made it thru them too. I had never heard or thought about anyone talking their way out of a ticket in BAJA. Lesson learned pay attention and if stopped show RESPECT. Tight lines.

Wow Bob! You are one lucky guy. We had a policia follow us with lights on after doing an illegal U-turn and he stopped the guy behind us. Whew!

You probably got off because you gave him that sad puppy dog look or because you look like Andrew Zimmern.

Glad that all went well!

Must have been on Mex 3 to Tecate? I had Chevy trucks passing me on blind curves going twice the speed limit all day yesterday on Mex 1.
Used to be the annoying thing driving Baja was getting behind a family of eight all jammed inside a crappy old Nissan Sentra doing 10 miles an hour - now its young punks in jacked up trucks endangering everyone...

What's the best way to address an officer in Mexico if you do get pulled over? Do you address them as senor, agente or something else. I just want to be respectful and cordial if it does happen.
