I'll be there. When we all worked together to save La Jolla from an MLPA closure, I never imagined this outcome. James is there now. I get to visit him every time I fish this special place.

My family is grateful for everything the community has done to help us remember James. It's special to us. Thank you Andy and to everyone in the OEX crew.

Time for another prize post. Someone's going home with this FeelFree Dry Cool Pack. Use it to keep your refreshments cool - there's an insulated insert - as well as a drain and a quick-access zipper. Not thirsty? It doubles as a standard and spacious dry bag.

good stuff Paul! last year HOW was the recipient of the proceeds. Great fishing that time of year, we had all 4 categories filled with quality fish!

The So Cal Heroes on the Water Team has already offered their assistance in cooking for this event.

I'm late with this prize update. First off, the way fishing has been off the hook, the catches could be spectacular and history making for a La Jolla kayak fishing tournament. Sign up already!

If you rock a Hobie and wear a size L tee, you'll want one of the cool Hobie by Hurley shirts in our collection of prizes. We have several designs. There's also this camo'd Hobie by Hurley set of boardshorts.

I'll have more prizes to post soon. Stay tuned!

Paul,

If ever there was a person/family worthy of support, it be you/yours, amigo.

Sammons clued me in on the event at the launch yesterday and, whether free that day or not, I'm glad to contribute (will do so via PayPal).

Later, while chatting with Rod & Val on the water, got Tobey on the phone and had a common chat via speaker phone. Quite comical, actually - an unusual reunion of sorts.

All said, clearly bad things can happen to good people, with one's measure determined by how we deal with them. True to form, you're high up there, sir and I, as always, look forward to seeing you whenever wherever.

I fished a tournament with my daughter who was 11 at the time. She did pretty good and won the ladies / junior divisions with her first kayak yellowtail unassisted.

Best of luck. I will be cheering for Team Tuipala.:)

Plenty of guys signing up knowing they can't attend. Nobody is donating the food, it is being purchased with entry fee money. Approximately $25 of your $30 entry will go directly to the JAL Scholarship.

At one time La Jolla hosted the longest-running kayak fishing tournament in the world. As many as 200 anglers gathered the weekend after Labor Day.
Andy "Iceman" Allen of OEX Sunset Beach revived the tradition last year, and this year he's honoring San Diego fishing legend Paul Lebowitz's late son by naming the tournament the James Lebowitz Memorial. Proceeds benefit the scholarship endowment established at Cal Poly Pomona in James' memory.
Categories: largest fish overall and largest yellowtail, white seabass, and halibut. Anglers may launch any time after midnight on September 12 from La Jolla Shores; final weigh in will be at Standley Park at 1pm. You must be in line with your fish prior to 1pm. Kids fish free with adult.

When: Saturday, September 12, midnight
Where: Standley Park and Recreation Center (http://www.sandiegoreader.com/places/standley-park-and-recreation-center/) 3585 Governor Drive, San Diego, 92122

Unfortunately I have been unable to swap work days with someone at work, so I'm stuck working this Saturday and will be unable to participate in this great tournament. I will watch the LJ web cam when I can, and look for familiar faces. I wish everyone a great time and hope this event raises a good amount for the JAL scholarship at Cal Poly Pomona. Tight Lines to all BWE members

For anybody that catches fish tomorrow at the tournament... If you can donate your fish to HOW (Heroes on the Water) the Veterans will appreciate it! I will be filleting fish at the park. So after you weigh your fish in, please find me and drop off your fish.

paintnfish just emailed me about this, Andy/Paul - apologies for almost missing the chance to contribute, I'm signed up but don't know if I can make it. If there will be T-shirts and/or stickers made and I'm not there, please save me a XL!

Paul, my little Travis is just 4 months. I have thought of your James on many occasions the past 4 months. I replay in my mind you introducing me to him and shaking hands at a launch for a tourney many years ago. I don't think you guys made it out that time. Don't think I really understood the level of your loss until recently. Until we come together again to fight for our right to fish, stay strong and Godspeed my veteran brother!

Thank you Grego. We have plenty of shirts and stickers and can always make more. If you don't make it to LJ, you know where to find me. Congratulations! It's quite a journey, and you're only just beginning. There are so many firsts in front of you and Travis. All the best to you my friend.

Talking to Arne, sounds like he won't be able to attend. I did sell him a Revo 13 awhile back and he has been out in it catching. :D

I was surprised that no one else sat in on the Tony Park Fish Cleaning Seminar. I don't know why he kept the microphone and speaker on with me sitting front and center solo but I think that's an Asian karaoke thing. Only thing that did was amplify his heavy ass accent. The one sad sack part of this time was when he asked the audience (me) if there were any questions...of course I raised my hand..."ummm...Mr. Park, sir, can you please spare a Sabiki 500 for me?" He hesitates for about 3 seconds and screams out at me... "Get out! GET OUT! You no come back here!" Whatever, man...go talk to yourself. Jim
