There are BFT being caught less than 10 miles from mission bay this week. New Seaforth got 2 yesterday pm.
Anybody feeling spunky enough for really long paddle, to most likely get completely skunked? I have a target zone in mind which I know NSF has been fishing this week. Launching from secret spot around 3 AM saturday, should be west of the zone by sun-up.

I would if I could. If you get out there you will at least likely see BFT :D
Watch out for the googans in the dark and git sum!

Launch spot will require wheels... especially for PA. But shouldn't be too difficult overall.

WONews....http://www.wonews.com/t-PrivateBoatersReport_061615.aspx
The bluefin are more often than not very difficult to get to come off their natural feed and bite on the baits and lures that anglers are presenting to them but there have been some biters to be found. The bluefin that have been available have been worth putting in the effort for as they have ranged in size from 20 to 175+ pounds. Some areas where bluefin have been reported from north to south have been the 14 Mile Bank, 267 Spot, 277 Spot, 209 Spot, 181 Spot, 312 Spot, 182 Spot, 178 Spot, the upper end of the 9 Mile Bank and 4 to 6 miles off the coast between Point Loma and La Jolla.
sounds like fun. go get some!

Dudes, that is ballsy! Id bring a sail for the "ride" home!
Handheld Vhf, extra parts, 1/4 mile of duct tape, safety wire, spare spark plugs, some Mexican money, box of naked lady tees, carton of Power Gels.....actually starting to sound fun!

Sunz out, gunz out mofos!:D
I'm looking to develop some of the techniques I learned trying offshore last year, but always open to new ideas if anyone has suggestions. I will try to make bait in the dark, but it may be tough. My plan right now includes megabaits, butterfly jigs, tady 45s, small x-raps, and a shit-ton of food and hydration.
Should be around 25-30 miles paddling for the day... and 3-4K calories burned.

Chris...or should I refer to you as "Donkey Roper??" (Assuming you used to live in Tijuana?)....How in Sam Hell do you plan on stopping one of those things once hooked? A little 30 lb. yellowtail gives a sleigh ride...what does a 150+ lb. bullet with a tail give, a ride to Clemente?

Ive been seriously considering this as well. Maybe a small group of us should get together and go for it! 👍👍
Might not ever get another chance like it again

I was on the New Seaforth for the am half day trip this morning. The skipper (Brian Castleton) said he was seeing Bluefin Tuna all over the place lately, mostly in the afternoon. After catching plenty of rock fish, he was hunting down fish boils and found several. He was searching along the outside of the kelp beds in La Jolla.
One guy pulled in a good looking size yellowtail from the first boil, but no tuna this morning. Fish report for today reports another bluefin tuna being caught this afternoon. For this Wed morning, the boat was less than half full. I think they can fit 75 anglers. The morning boat had 30. It was a nice morning.
How far out is that target zone? I dropped a pin on my iphone to mark the location, but it didn't stick for some reason, so I can't tell you the distance.

I keep hearing about guys throwing their typical yellowtail jigs to no prevail, and some mention flat falls, but what about knife jigging? Nobody really does that out here, although almost all the opah reports from a few weeks ago were from guys that knew how to knife jig. I bet that's the ticket on the bluefin, get that reaction bite! Get a knife jigging rod with an avet jx spooled with 65-80lb braid and 60-100 lb flouro with a 300 gram jig! I bet that would be the ticket. A few came on surface iron, yoyo and flat fall, but sounds like it's pretty tough to get one to bite from all the reports lately. Time to change out the tactics!

Best not to put the location in this thread anyway.

Hadn't thought about it. Gosh sounds dangerous... maybe I should spool up my marlin rig with 100# florescent mono and troll around with that?:linesnap:
This IS the report section. Right?

Went Monday on the boat. Threw irons directly at crashing 25-40# YFT, along with the rest of the crew multiple times. Beautiful sight to see! Didn't bring anything home but YT. We were told that is extremely common lately. Good luck. I'll be looking forward to hearing your report.
