Long story short, I sent in my passport card application too close to my travel date and won't be getting it in time. I am not born here but I am a naturalized citizen. Can you cross border with my current california driver license?
Thank you for your help!

NO!
No.
Its possible you may get through but why risk it especially w your citizenship?

bring a birth certificate with your driver's license and maybe even your naturalization certificate (copies should be fine) and youll be OK to get back in. they may send you to secondary, but as a US Citizen, they cant deny your entry.

Not worth the risk or trouble...
Don't do it!

This was what I told but wanted to confirm with frequent traveler if anyone has done this.. But I'm going there to fish and not worth the risk. I think it's better to postpone and be safe. Just requested to expedite my application. Was told no guarantee by the date I'm gonna travel.. My travel date falls right on the 6th week estimate for routine passport application process time :(

IMO its one gov agency that underpromises and over produces. Last year my renewal came very fast w/o the expedite.
you should be good.
