Just picked up a new set up. Got a phenix black diamond 809 and going to pair it with a daiwa saltist bg 35. Mainly going to use it for irons. Gong to spool it all the spectra and use a short fluro leader. I was thinking about 55#.
Any thoughts?

55 is not very common, try 50 or 65

50 will do anything you need it to do. All I can say is invest in a good reel with a smooth drag

i was thinking 65 too, but not sure if it's suitable for the reel.
40/600
50/360
that is the braid capacity for the reel I'm looking at.

surface iron - dont put braid on it. Go 40XXX Izor.
yoyo iron - 65lb Izor
just my opinion. Unless you never ever, ever backlash or unless you have a boat load of iron. Each back lash with braid = 1 iron donated to the sea

I've got a couple of psw809h's. For throwing iron, your best bet is to have more mono than your casting distance so you're not casting with the spectra and the spectra is for backing. 50# spectra is fine with 40# mono and will give you more backing than 65# spectra. So probably 200yds of 50# spectra + 100yds of 40# will get it done. Besides, Diawa is awfully proud of that 55# spectra! An alternative is to go with all spectra with a 3' leader. I'd go with mono since it's not a stealthy presentation. I only use fluoro when it's needed and it isn't for YT.
