So the elation I had this morning after landing my first kayak YT (25.5#), was seriously dampened when I got home and found that someone had stolen my dry bag out of the kayak when I was off getting the car. Yup some Assh&1e, opened the center hatch, lifted out the tackle box, and then pulled out the dry bag (with fish finder, VHF, wallet and fishing licenses), and then replaced the box and closed the hatch. SonofaBi%ch!

If anyone happens to find a green drybag around the launch area with anything left in it please let me know.

Thanks

Lame! Maybe the LJ Camera at the launch has a recording of the SOB. Might be worth looing into. Sorry about your loss.

For future...I used to take anything not bolted down to my car with me when I picked it up. Especially during the summer. Lots of A Holes and Thieves at the beach!

This ^^^^ Plus I will greet a fellow yaker if I don't see anyone I know and ask them to watch my chit while I run to get the ride. Most will have your back. Getting stuff jacked sucks donkey balls.

That sucks, and I worry about that happening all the time. I take my wallet and FF with me to the car. Also, I tend to ask fellow yakkers on the beach to watch my stuff until I get back, then return the favor...so far, this has worked well. Sorry to hear about your loss.

X2 - do NOT leave anything of value on OR inside your kayak...even on the sands of La Jolla. Carry it with you to the car!

Scandalous people suck and they are for sure looking for ANY opportunity!

* Time for a good old fashion LJ sting and beat down?

I seriously loathe people who steal things. I find that low-life mentality hard to fathom.

BUTT HAY --- I have another idea: Since your tackle box was still in place, is it possible that your dry bag shifted locations in the hull?

In my Outback, on multiple occasions, I have put things in any of the three hatches and they have vanished, only to wash out with a whoosh of water at another time.

Things have a tendency to get stuck in weird areas of the inside of the hull, even when I try to crank my neck around the corners to look for them visually. There are blind spots I can't see or reach with my arms.

The easiest way to knock things out that I have "lost" is when I have a few gallons of water at either end, and slosh it back and forth. My flip-flops, lunch box, grapefruits rolling around, etc., show up like magic at one end or the other.

I hope you find your things.

EDIT: Sorry Iceman -- I responded before I got to your post. I should finish reading threads before I start blabbing. It's typical.

Back in the day when i surfed scripps pier, a lot of cars would constantly get broken into. On one occasion I remember seeing a fellow surfer stomping around the bushes with a 2x4 looking for the culpret. La jolla has degenerates lurking about just like most so cal beaches.

I was out fishing LJ today and took my wallet and vhf to the car. The FF was in the hutch in a dry bag. Everything else was there when i returned. Will not be doing that one any more. Sorry to hear this.

Gabe your spot on buddy!!! There was a scumbag lowlife thief that was on this forum and has resurfaced on this forum that stole a mirage drive from a fellow fisherman......

People need to show more respect to other people. I have found people lifting kill bags and looking into personal property only to scurry off, one guy drives a grey or silver suv I think it's a 4Runner biggest launch lurker kook on the planet the other used to drive a maroon Toyota fj I'm pretty sure that clown bailed....

Zero tolerance for thieves....

Yeah I heard Da Guy was back here on BWE...

Anybody remember his name?

driftwood
07-24-2015, 12:10 PM
I know who the guy is RK. Why is it that every time this guy resurfaces thing just mysteriously disappear?

My buddy one day landed with the same guy in La Jolla, and when he got back from getting his car, the guy was gone and my buddy's expensive rod and reel was gone too.

Maybe it's the same thief or maybe not. But as long as this guy is still around my stuff and your stuff is not safe!

If someone is working that area looking for targets of opportunity, it might be fun to set up a beach chair and umbrella as an incognito stakeout.
Volunteers could set up shifts and take turns for the sake of the the community. Stick your GoPro on a stick in the sand under your umbrella for extra evidence.

Sitting at the beach in the shade is not a bad way to spend the day.

When the culprit is caught in the act, give him a suitable and justifiable beat-down then tie him up with an anchor rope and sit on him until the police arrive to arrest him. If he tries to get away, gaff him.

Post the video of your trophy catch in the Manly Man thread :)

The thief does sound like he knows the in's and out's of a kayak. How would someone know if something is under the center hatch tackle box? Perp must have seen you store your dry bag during launch or you took the dry bag out to grab your keys when you landed and spotted it then?

I say catch him / them, and cut then down to good size bites for the seals. They have to eat and then they might leave our macs alone.

I agree with what's been said so far.
This thief obviously fishes. And if I remember correctly I think the guy
Had his girlfriend helping, when the
Mirage drive got stolen. I also think he got busted for posting the item for sale.
Shady and sad if he's back in action.
I remember fishing a squid bite and someone pointed this guy out to me. That same day some rods went missing.

Don't we have a photo of his truck/suv? I thought it was posted. I think I remember the vehicle was
Gray with stickers.

This is why I just park as close as I can to the launch, and then roll everything to the beach on my kayak with my cart. It's more work, but no one is going to steal my mirage drive, or my rods, or anything.

I've been thinking of rigging a shoulder strap with a loop of wide webbing, so my arms don't have to do as much work pulling the yak.

Totally sucks.

I wouldn't recommend leaving anything unattended at the launch for any length of time.

I use the heavy duty beach wheels and park on the street and walk my kayak down the streets and out onto the sand and then back to the truck afterwards. Nothing is ever left more than a couple feet away from me.

I've seen more and more people start to do this... Might have to get me some wheels!

A friendly reminder... if someone asks you to watch their stuff... please watch it! I've had two times now where I've asked someone to watch my gear only to see them off to the side blabbing about their fish. Imagine how shitty you would feel if someones gear got lifted on your watch?

I drive a black tacoma with a mango and olive revo. I'm always more than happy to watch your gear!

quickset cement shoes

there is broken car window glass on pch that I see regularly
don't leave shit in your car/truck either
