View Full Version : PB YT = 43" and strongest fight ever!

I know....the YT reports are everywhere now-a-days so I'll keep it short & sweet. This guy beat my old PB (click here) (http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/showthread.php?t=25788) by 5-inches and was 43-inches measured. The wound on the side is something it came with and is not a gaff mark. I used the game clip only to pull this thing onto the yak for a picture. Fish was released after the photo session.

PB YT @ 43" to fork - This is a far back as I can hold the camera and over my head. I admit my legs are not linebacker versions but you can get a sense of the size of this fish in comparison:

Very nice forkie. Good job on the release. As long as you are measuring, get a girth measurement. The formula for getting the weight from the length and girth is actually pretty accurate on those yellows.

Nice YT, and hats off for the release. But buy a lip gripper and tether it rather than a game clip. As gentle as you can insert it, it only takes one good thrash of their head to ruin their own gills.

I was wondering how you did, saw your post asking for company. Congrats on the yellow and great job with the release! I knew there was someone else out there other than me that releases more yellows than they keep (or at least it seems that way) haha :cheers1:

Did you catch that yellowtail on the spinning gear setup and what is it a Penn Spinfisher V reel? What rod?

Maybe you didn't gaff him, but he certainly looks like he slipped one before! Nice C&R. If you released him because your freezer was full, HOW can always use a fish donation. Thanks

Way to go on the CPR. Fish reports never get old. It's when the reports of no fish happen is when the frustration starts.

Note that many ratings on the spinfishers are understated. (I have two of them) I have about 300 yards of 65-lb power-pro main-line on my SSV6500LL. The drags come on radically strong as well with published rates being easily obtainable. The rod and reel are sized well for each other.

Until this fish, I always felt this system was too much power for where we go. It usually just winches them in. Glad I had it for this one.
