On the water by 730am, started making bait around 8ish. Lots of activity on the surface of the water near the edge of the reserve. Bait was hit or miss along the kelp edge. I ended up with 2 green backs and about 7 spanish and decided it was time to start heading to deeper water.

Lost the first green back shortly after starting to troll. Next up i decided to try a spanish mac, hooked up a good size fish and lost it. Lost another spanish this time to a sea lion. At this point im near the corner of the kelp and decided to start heading out towards these boats in deeper water. Got about quarter of a mile out when i hooked up on a green back in about 120ft of water. My first tuna from the kayak.

a little confused about if its a bluefin or yellowfin any help determining the difference between them would be great.

It's a bluefin for sure. It has a short pectoral that doesn't reach the dorsal. Congrats!

Congrats on your tuna, good to see you got on to BWE.

Thanks again for the Spanish Mackerel, I was just about to call it a day when you came along and gave me what you had. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make anything happen but at least I was able to spend the rest of he day OTW and fish. Hopefully someday I can return the favor or pay it forward.

Here are the photos I took

Nice fish! I saw a group of about 5 or 6 greyhounding in that same area on my way back in with my fish. Unfortunately I was unprepared at the time, watching Tony play with a YT.

Nice to meet you on the beach yesterday and congrats on the BFT. Since you asked me yesterday, my fished weighed in at 34 pounds. Ate a big green back pinned on 60 pound pink seaguar floro. fish was landed in maybe five minutes. We were about 2.5 miles out and I had just past a little micro kelp paddy. Was one of the biggest blowups I have ever seen. Huge explosion behind me was soo cool to see.

That is so awesome. I haven't been able to hit LJ in a couple of weeks and that is just making it more unbearable. Thanks for sharing.
