This one is little easier for the most part.

All ocean/fishing related.

#1 is for twisting a wire leader,

#4 is to put on your line when you get stuck on a dock, it slides down the line and knocks your lure loose

# 6 and 9 are both used for threading a ballyhoo or similar dead bait for trolling (east coast style)

#22 are catfish pliers for skinning a catfish or any fish for that matter

You claim to have a "weakness for gadgets". I think you are a "gadget hoarder!"

I need to make up for a lot of lost fishing time during years 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and part of 2000, up to 2006. Fishing was great then, but I had more important priorities.
Getting educated, married and raising a daughter, who now is a chemistry professor at Harvey Mudd College.
As to Catalina, I can PM you when I go again. Probably in November.

#3 is a chum bag
Correct sir.

#12 is a lime juice for making ceviche
Sorry, incorrect.

#1 is for twisting a wire leader,
Not right.

#4 is to put on your line when you get stuck on a dock, it slides down the line and knocks your lure loose
Correct. Works best on treble hooks.

# 6 and 9 are both used for threading a ballyhoo or similar dead bait for trolling (east coast style)
Guess for #6 is incorrect, but #9 is correct.

#22 are catfish pliers for skinning a catfish or any fish for that matter
Correct sir.

You have NO idea how right you are.

Lobster gauge for dive light...
Maybe the toughest one to guess unless you are a diver. Correct.

Since we are going to Baja, here is a link to a thread about a trip to the same latitude as Cedros Island, on Pacific side.
http://www.pierfishing.com/msgboard/viewtopic.php?t=15944&highlight=2013

At the same website, you can search for many reports by me about my fishing outings. Particularly the Catalina Mole trips.

I have a four parts post about the fishing the Cedros Island, if anybody is interested.

Keep the guesses coming.

Here are the answers. Of course none is needed to go fishing, but it may be helpful to know they exist just in case one decides to use them.

1-Magnet to hold the rod secure while putting on, or taking off waders, etc. in preparation of going fishing, or going home.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1099.jpg

2-Miracle thread for keeping soft bait on the hooks.

3-Chum bag

4-Lure retriever. The tool slides on the fishing line to the lure, the chains hook to the treble hooks,
and the heavy line is used to retrieve the lure instead of taking a risk of breaking the fishing line.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1112.jpg

5-Caroliner keeper.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1120.jpg

6-Line threading device for casting reels, especially when using braid.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1132.jpg
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1105.jpg

7-Battery operated lighted units that can be used instead of the onetime chemical light stick.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1111.jpg
The one on the left is for deep water. The middle one for surface.

8-Casting reel line holder. It prevents line to be pulled of the line winder slot. A simple loop at the end
of the line does the same thing.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1131.jpg

9-Leader threading device for whole fish as bait. The top one is actually typewriter spring installation
Tool that I found to do the job. Others will do the same.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1113.jpg

10-Flashlingt bug gauge. It allows seeing and measuring the lobsters underwater with one hand.
http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq163/balickchi/wrd%20answers/IMG_1125.jpg

11-Helps holding the tailfin of the fish while scaling or gutting the fish.

12- Removes fish scales.

Hope you had fun guessing.
