Anyone use a Lowrance Elite 5 Chirp sonar unit? I'm going to have to upgrade from 7.5 amp hours to a higher amp hour rated battery. Wondering how many hours I'm gonna get from a 9.5 and also if I could use something other than lead/acid even if it costs more.

Lithium Ion is much lighter than lead acid, they can be wired in series to give you the voltage you need and in parallel to give you the amps. The only problem is you need a dedicated charger to charge them

I have one and use a 7AH battery. Its never died on me. I've been out there from 6am to 1pm. I have the screen brightness set at 6.

This is what you want. 3, consecutive 10 hour days with HDS 5 max brightness.

I have the Bioenno 12v 12a battery, its worth every cent. The longest I've ever gone without it shutting down was about 15hrs.

All very good info, I appreciate the help. I got a 9 amp hour today on the way home from work. Its the same size as my 7.5 but a bit heavier. I will look into the lithium ion as well. I'm glad I'm not gonna have to put solar panels or a windmill on the yak.

Have same unit and just ran a time test last night on the new battery (lead 12 volt, 9amp) Lasted from 10:00pm till 1:00pm the next day.. I'm sure it won't last as long on the water if I keep playing around but that gives me a good sense of how long it should last which is way more than expected.

Screen was set at 4 as don't need it that bright anyhow.. $25 bucks and can stores nicely in back of kayak in the useless hatch..
