So I bought a kayak. I think I got all the required gear. I just got approved for a week of vacation time. I'm ready to kayak fish. I was thinking about heading out to La Jolla on Tuesday 29th. I could use some help. Anyone down to take a newb out? What's a good time to launch? I plan to go everyday.

I usually fish on Tuesday. Not a problem joining me if you want. I usually launch at first light.

You didnt say any thing about your ecperience level. Maybe get the feel for your kayak with a few trips trips in calmer waters before you head to LJ. If you're feeling comfortable then go for it. Mike

I've been paddling for weeks in mission bay. I'm ready, not scared.

I do. I've made a bunch of those paracord weed Wacker line leashes. I've been researching kayak fishing for over a year now. I think I have everything I need for at least the first trip. I'm still saving for a fish finder.

Sorry but just remembered I have a Dr appt. Hope you have fun and stay safe. Make sure you connect with someone before launching. You can always ask someone at the launch site if you can join them.

Most people launch around day break. Make sure you can see waves before you launch. You can paddle in the shallow white water and wait there until swell is in your favor. Just keep the bow into the white water while you wait and all will be good. When you see your opening, do your thing. Have fun and catch a big one.

Well I learned some valuable lessons today. I paddled aimlessly for about 3 hrs. Found the kelp beds. Took 3 greenbacks in 5 hrs. Ran out of sunscreen. Flipped the yak on the landing. Oh yeah, apparently Im susceptible to sea sickness. 13 yrs in the Navy and I yak on the yak. I'll be back tomorrow.

Just don't keep staring into the water and spend more time looking at the horizon. Bring something to eat. In no time you'll be over it and after some time kayak fishing it won't ever bother you again
