Big Sur fishing????

Going to be in Big Sur for a wedding this weekend and looking for some fishing spots. Probably going to bring a rod or 2 and try from the shore. Fresh or saltwater, I got the gear.

Anyone willing to help a brother out with some Intel on spots close to Big Sur??

FYI, this El Niño season has been ridiculous. Miss being on the yak tho :/.

I've never fished big sur, but I've fished Cambria (which is south of there) and spots around there. I always used my kayak and got big lings, but I saw some guy fishing from shore. I didn't see any of hit catches, but my friend who went in before me said he caught some lings and assorted rockfish.

I'm sure anywhere would be good that gets deep fast. The only difficulty would be beach access. Those cliffs make it tough.

Get really familiar with the MLPA areas first and foremost. Once you know where you'll be fishing if it's from rocks bring a heavy bass rod and some 5"+ swimbaits w/weedless jigheads. I'd think it would be wise to scale down to a smaller sized swimbait/grub if rockfish is your agenda. My wife kills it on squid strips for rockfish from shore.

This. They're a great community. That said there aren't a ton of mlpa's in big sur area proper. Start heading up north and you'll run in to pt lobos etc.

Limekiln State Beach is in a small cove that is full of bass. Beach launch is a little challenging but not as bad as coming back in to shore! But the fishing can be off the hook (or on the hook depending on your point of view). Big Lings, all sorts of different types of bass and an assortment of other rock fish makes this a pretty good spot. It's been a few years since I've been back there, but fishing from the shore can be pretty good though there's lots of loose kelp in the water that hangs you up.

Thanks for all the info, fellas! I'm most likely leaving the yak at home and will try from shore. Swimbaits and luckycrafts will probably be my go to!

In Cambria at San Simeon pier u can rent a yak for $40 all day. Paddle out past kelp edge between the pier and point on the right side. Great fishing. Big ling cod, rock cod, reds, covina. 1 trip for me got me hooked on the whole new kayak obsession. Only wish I could catch fish here like I did there.
