Going to head out tomorrow AM. This will be my 3rd time out. Anyone got any tips or locations in OC to try and land my first halibut?

Dana Point bait barge is supposed to have nice sardines this weekend.

My 8 in greenback got absolutely shredded last time I was bottom fishing at dana point. Definitely go with a trapper rig and lively bait. Good luck!

What are the best hook shapes and sizes for making a good trap rig?

I stopped using them because of damage I was doing to the wrong kinds of fish that suck the second hook down too deep to get them out easily.

On the other hand, I have favorite butt target zones where my bait often gets raked on almost every drop and I'm wondering if there's a way to do the second hook better?

What are the best ways to place the hooks for the easy movement and longevity of the bait fish?

Would a circle hook in the second position still eventually end up in the corner of the mouth or would that position defeat it's purpose?

Would snelled hooks in either position be better?

Is the second hook usually pinned in the bait or does it flow freely?

What say Ye?

I call false advertising!!! I saw the subject matter "butt hunting" and thought for sure someone was going to shoot a Kardasian, imagine my disappointment when I realized the truth.

Butt hunting didn't go so hot. Caught a couple small calicos and had a great paddle in some beautiful weather though.

Dines and chovies I got were best I've seen in a long time. That includes long range boats and 6 packs I usually frequent.

it's why they call it hunting and not just catching. You still caught some fish and had a good time, I call that a success

I've already asked that.
Is somebody has encountered with problem: While I am casting, the trap hook is catching the line at the flying. I am filling it when I start retrieving: swimbait pulling much harder. Swimbait is 4 or 5" Big Hammer, hook #6 Owner Mosquito.
It is happens about 80% of casting. I've tried to change stile of casting like side cast, overhead cast etc. Result the same. Any suggestions?
What size of trap hook is reccommended for halibut? #6 is enough?
Thanks
