Just received my elite chirp 5 with west marine extended warranty. Transducer is being supplied by Lowrance direct. Need to know how many 50/200 transducer users have had problems so I can decide on whether to purchase extended warranty on the transducer as well. Thanks

Temp sensors go bad often. They leak water in and it messed em up. Lowrance didnt even care that I had a warranty, they said they have their own warranty. New ducer sent to my door in 3 days. Kept the old one. Guy told me their warranty is 2 years.
Definitely get the warranty for the head unit though.

Extended Warranties.....here's my take on them.
7 months after my Lowrance two year factory warranty expired I started having issues with my HDS-5. Had I not purchased the extended warranty I would be purchasing a new unit this weekend. So, ask yourself this question.
Can you afford to purchase a new unit every two years? If so, screw the extended warranty.
P.S.
the West Marine extended warranty on a new Lowrance 50/200 transducer is only $14.

If you can purchase a warranty from West Marine, buy it! I had problems with my Lowrance Elite 4 HDI after about 6 months. Lowrance sent me a new one free of charge, but one has to wonder why so many people are having issues with the transducer? The head units seem fine from most of the comments, but the transducer is what seems to be crapping out. Not sure why that would be, but sounds like Lowrance has a problem that needs solving.
