Hobie has started selling rail kits, these are 9" for $19.99 each, comes with mounting hardware. Might have some cool applications, like this one on the Outfitter solving where to put what. Also comes in a 21" length

Nice!

Is the red portion of it part of the locking system or is it clamped down with screws?

The rail itself would be thru-bolted, the red is part of the Rail mount Ram Ball

Who is gonna be the first to try it ? Is this something that might be standard equipment in 2016? Have they disclosed price yet?

How is it fastened to the kayak?

From top with "T" nut, or from the bottom?

Is there access from the inside of the kayak to be installed where it is usable?

does it have a nice backing plate ????.. my yak has no rodholders and its time after all these years...those rail seem versatile but I am concerned with durability and backing plates...velocity model kayak

Hobie did not feel the need for backing plates, hardware shown in photo, phillips on top, nuts and washers on the inside.

Bob at it's widest point it is 15" the 9 inch seems to be the length of metal tubing within, usable area of rail is 61/2 inches

$20 each for the 9" $25 each for the 21"
