View Full Version : - Acceptable Wait Time to Report ?

Hello Guys I want to touch on a subject that has always crossed my mind after a good catch.

This is not an intimidation post, or in anyway an attempt at discouraging a Fish Report Post - I have much respect for Adi and my fellow Kayak Fisherman on this site - I was one for many years - although I seldom venture across the morning surf anymore, for favor of my warm Parker.

Here goes - With the Blazing Speed of the Internet, Cell Phones, Texts, Fish Dope, as well as people monitoring your website....

How to you share your hard earned Fish Report with your community without calling in the Masses which shut a bite down?

It's a touchy subject, but there must be a balance somewhere.
I encourage you to discuss the subject and would like to hears some thoughts.

I still need to post a report from 4 weeks ago :D :D :D :D :D

All I know is when I caught the fish, There were 4 of us kayakers and maybe one boat.

I went out last Saturday to 100 Boats and Yaks. The word got out and they did scare the fish away with all that pressure.

Sometimes, you really need to hold the fish report.

Sometimes it does not matter.

How do I share my cool catches? With a close knit group of really salty guys. We share current fish information as well as the catch itself and fish recipes. Information is so key to this sport.

To me it all depends on the spot and the bite.

I usually wait until the bite is over to share on the internet or once its already a shit show out there, tell 2-3 of my good friends that day and ask them not to tell the world. Otherwise if you cannot wait, share the report and do not share the location.

I agree with both of you - That's how we have done it in the past.
-It is dependent on the type of fish biting.

ie. Yellowtail Vs. Wsb - the latter which deserves a little more consideration.
Easily shut down by boat people (myself not included)

It is especially important to the kayak fisherman to preserve his hard earned bite, with the limited range we have, and the loss of fishing grounds we suffered at the hands of eco terrorists.

Good to see things are well in hand.
-Finding my own bite caused me to get out much more and make some great friends.

One of the best feeling is to have a close fishing buddy call you all amped up yelling "Hey lets go - it's on" Now!

How's this for protecting the bite? Summer of 2009, might have been October, maybe not though. Billy V donned his best pair of dress jeans, and we went fishing for some Albacore.

Its been over 6 years, and fish have tails, so I wouldn't go paddling out of Dana Point for them just yet...

Shit, is it throw back Thursday.. Some old school members popping out of the woods..

I would comment about posting reports but between LJ and Malibu I'm always a step behind it seems.. But if I find my own bite i would post a report but just omit locations and share with my buddies only.. If it's not my bite or location then not my place to share with anyone not even my buddies..

Good luck and hope to see a report soon, not cause that's stopping me from heading out but just for good reading others adventures.

I keep all the Yellowtail I catch in a wide open bite. I consider myself
a Great conservationist by keeping it quiet. :D

The next time the wind is 20 kts you post up: should have been there yesterday.
Or when the launch is head high, post and then go down for the show.

Billy V. Blast from the past! Hope you're well.

I remember when I first got into kayak fishing and I was losing fish to bad connections. You showed me the san diego knot at the moyer tournament. Never fails!

If you ever need company on the parker, let me know.

Hey Billy V...don't think we ever met but wanted to be clear that none of this is about you brotha, cool? But since you've asked, lol:

Fish Dope.com whores out the latest real time info so there's no secret on the boaters side of things.
Cheap ass boaters who don't want to pay for fishdope end up lurking BWE, lol.
Any stoke that someone wants to share should be posted (or not) at any time without influence of others...
Lurkers on BWE suck.
Old time yakkers who lurk and NEVER offer one piece of past experience or quality advice (except negative bull shit) SUCK.
If BWE users were a bunch of non-posting lurkers, there would be no BWE.

Peace Billy V! :cheers1:

No offense taken Jim.

Part of the reason I made the post is because of what FD posted on their site a few night ago. It was complete BS and they made it sound like it was a wide open bite, when it wasn't.
-It resulted in 35 boats driving in that night to area where 5 guys were anchored up quietly fishing.

They even lured a Light Boat to the spot who tried his hardest with all 30,000 Watts of Metal Halide to no avail. LOL It was funny watching him shut down the lights.

I know of 4 fish caught and 1 lost - among 3 boats myself included. 2 boats were former/semi-retired kayak fisherman.

I was happy to read that the kayak community is still as close knit as it should be, considering the competition it is up against.

-I like to stay in touch - so check your PM's ;)

I guess it comes down to what you want to do. Do you want to help people out or do you to show off your catch.

If you post on BD or Insta just say you caught your fish at Box Canyon. Most people that sit around waiting for wide open bites will believe it ....

Loose lips sink ships.....

Even in a hot bite, where everyone seems to be hooking up right and left, it is important to remember that fish are NOT an unlimited resource.

Recently there have been a few internet blasts on this site that described the past few weeks of fishing as "plenty to go around". This is not true and is disrespectful to the ocean, the fish, and other fishermen.

Post up your reports. Maybe add some details to them like the old school crew used to do. But please respect the ocean and honor the fish you catch.... it is a limited resource and deserves respect. :cheers1:

I share between a close tight lipped bunch as far as I know 😬 That we network in the week of fishing helps us stay on top them and what not

Maybe I've been doing this too long, but I do try to submit reports that are timely enough to help folks. Back in the plastic navy days you got fresh reports, but things have changed. Way more and faster on line tech and 1000X times more yak anglers.

The only reports I don't share are about squid. Squid on the coast bring out the absolute worst in anglers. I won't help with that. Mike

+1 on giving reports to help others have a better chance on catching rather than just fishing. been fortunate to catch lots of fish over the years so no big deal to save others from a long day on the water with no action. just sayin...
