Hi guys, doing some maintenance to the kayak and need some advice.

The FF wires pass through the hull with a rubber grommet that has sealant over it. The sealant is failing and I'd like to make it water tight. A search through the forum archives has brought up a couple of products, mainly the 3M marine sealant 4200 and 5200. Another couple of google searches has led me down the rabbit hole on the boat forums about which one to use. I also read some stuff that said neither was suitable for plastic/silicone.

So.. any ideas what's on there now? It seems pretty hardy and flexible, and is failing after a long time (I'm second owner on the yak and the FF probably got installed 8 years ago).

And any ideas on what I should use to get a similar effect?

Cheers!

P.S. let me know if the image is broken. I'm messing around with google photos to see if it will work.

Edit: changed the host url in the hopes that people can see the picture.

Go get some hobie or west marine wire seals. They're not 100% water tight but it should work better than what you got.

Yep what ^ said. And you might have to open the hole a little with a razor blade to get both wires to pass through.

I can't see your picture but, as far as sealants go, I have had no problems with Marine Goop as long as you prep the area right first. Light sanding and cleaning of both surfaces (with alcohol is best) before applying.

OK, changed the host in the hopes that the picture is visible.

Reading about the 3M 4200 and 5200, they specifically say to avoid using alcohol when prepping the surface, so the Marine Goop must be something different.
