What's the fastest "plastic" yak?
Yaks & peddle boats have come a long way... mirage, twin turbo etc...

I know the old Cobra Expeditions were fast...but can anyone beat an old Tarpon t160i in a sprint AND/OR distance race??

:D:D

Long thin yaks tend to be faster. Tarpon 16, OK prowler 15, cobra tourer, and the OK scuppet pro are fast paddling kayaks.

I'd guess the fastest yak in a sprint or a 20 miler would be a Hobie Adventure. You can get that yak up to speed quickly and it doesn't take much to keep it there. Tracks very strait so you don't end up snake waking all over. Mike

Fast yaks don't catch fish, fisherman do!

This picture is from today, get your ass out there.

It's on the interweb, get some!!:biggrinjester:

I raced Bing once, he had a hobbie with turbo fins
had the jump on him at first, but he caught up and passed me

Also couldn't catch AnacapaBobs father in law when coming back from Limekiln, he was in a tarpon I think.

I'm in the 15' prowler

That old Tarpon 16 hull was always the fastest fishing type kayak.

Not quite the same as the 160i, but close. If anyone ever sees a 160i for sale, please let me know.

I will keep my eyes open for t160i for you.

*I think when I have to replace my tarpon ...I'm probably going to a composite/ carbon South African import. (Stealth, Pro-Fisha 525)
Have you seen these?

I think it would be fun if a few different yaks and paddlers had a friendly little fast paddle. Probably would be about 6 miles out and back... so a bit over an hour depending on conditions. I'm in a kraken now, which is pretty darn fast but probably still not as fast as the tarpon or the prowler.

I was looking at the pro-fisha 525, and tried to order one from Brett at Stealth but he stopped responding to me. They sell them at a shop up in Lodi, but after I took a closer look at the kraken, it seemed like a better fit for our style fishing. It would be rad to have a surf-ski for when the tuna come in. But the baitwell situation isnt ideal...

Last year I paddled a Pro Fisha 575 - very fast and surprisingly stable for being so narrow.

I sold my PA and bought Eddyline C-135 Yakattack edition and I've been in it three times and coming from the peddle PA 14 this yak feels to be the fastest yak on earth!!lol it cruises at 2.5 mph with barely any stroke of the paddle. Having never paddled before I don't really know how fast it should be. On glassy water I got it up to 6.0 mph but then again in the right shoulders(young and in shape) it will fly !!

Fastest?? Hobie Tandem Island w/2.3 HP Honda. Can cover 50 to 75 miles in a day. Sailing/peddling/motor or any combination, 1 gallon of gas will do it.
Of course your limited to your launch/landing locations, can't risk rolling over in the heavy surf with or without the motor.
