Launched at Cherry Beach about 7:30 for my first session this year. I trolled a crankbait and krocodile toward White Island for about 20 small, perfect bait-size macs. I fished around the island for a number of small calicoes and sand bass using a 1/4 oz. lead head with small big hammer or twister tail fished SLOOOOW on the bottom. Slow pick but just enough to stay interested. 18523

Sounds like it was worthwhile. How many ounces is your trolled Kroc? I trolled too light b4, maybe it has to be 1 ounce at least?

Conditions look awesome! Sounded like you made a decent day on the water out of it

When I fish in the Long Beach Harbor, I like to troll a deep diving crank bait, and a Krocodile spoon, #4 on Saturday, because you're spending a lot of time between spots and I want to make sure I have baits in the water between the oil islands or going to the break wall or whatever. I've caught a variety of fish using this shallow/deep approach in the harbor. That's not cranking on the pedals, either, and I don't have turbo fins or whatever. Just fast enough to get good action on the crankbait and you're good. I assume even the heavier #4 spoon is only running a few feet deep at a couple mph or less, the crank maybe 8' or so. You never know what's going to pick one of them up. I caught a pretty decent thresher out there on a small crankbait.
