There's also a quick reference for the current open/closed fisheries here https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Fishing-Map/Southern. This is for the Southern region here. Reading the regulations is a must too, as there may be other closed species not listed.. the Pacific Halibut for example is closed until May 1st but is not listed on that season link.
