Ok, I'll go first! What is your favorite go-to Calico rig and why?

I really like using Weedless Swimbaits. You can rig them on weightless to weighted hooks up to 1.5oz. This will allow you to fish a variety depths and speeds depending on what the fish are wanting that day.

I like the rapala hard baits about 6-7 inches long. Troll them around or over the kelp.

You can never go wrong with war baits. The variety of fish you can hook up to is insane.

I like hardbaits as well, but I am mostly a cast and retrieve kind of guy. The plastics give you a little more versatility.

Haven't targeted in a few years. Prior to the red crab invasion I had my best days using 1-1.5 oz yellow warbait with a skirt and a 5" green BH. Head into the thickest kelp you can find then drop, retrieve, move, repeat.

I've had recent luck with a weedless jig head and big hammer swimbait. Now if they were only larger..

Personally I love the rubble reefs around Gonzaga for Spotties, and it is hard to beat Asuncion for lunker Calicos. What are YOUR favorite areas for them? Any favorite lures? Tight Lines.

Joe needs to take that fly rod to Asuncion. That place is special and easy to get to.

I can't seem to nail down 1 color. But, whatever i'm using is on a Warbait head.

If I had to make a choice it would be a gold Warbait with a Mr T skirt and Houdini Paddlerz on the hook.

Check out the Daiwa SP minnows. Great calico bait and even for halibut too! Better stock hooks than the Lucky Crafts as well.

I haven't tried the Diawa hardbaits yet but have heard that they work good. I use a lot of Lucky Crafts and always change my hooks and split rings. I do this with all hardbaits no matter the brand when fishing Calico's. They beat up most tackle.

I rarely fish for Calicos and the only method I really enjoy is throwing the surface iron at them. When the kelp is pulled down just a few feet you can get an iron way back over the kelp. Bird shit tady 45 or C have been best for me. Waxwings are good too cause the up facing double skims over the kelp. Mike
