I was fishing Newport Harbor yesterday and didn't hear about this until I got home. I was just the other side of the jetty from where this happened. Anyone know any details of the woman who was attacked? Rumor has it that it was a great white, but the news report didn't say whether she was swimming, wading, in a kayak (heaven forbid) or what. Lots of sea lions about, so not really surprising I guess.

Surprised there's enough ambiguity that they have to qualify it as a "suspected shark"

I was fishing by the the bait barge in my float tube that afternoon. When you think that a GWS can travel up to 250 miles a day it seems like closing the beaches after the fact is more about reassuring beach goers than being an effective measure to protect folk from further attacks. :):):):)

Yep, sharks live in the ocean.
