We are planning a paddle out at La Jolla to spread Rod's ashes on Friday June 17.
Still working on details but likely do the paddle out at around 8:00am then head up to Kate Sessions Park for some food and to share some stories about our good friend. All are welcome.

We may ask for some help with the food at the park or for the use of extra kayaks for those coming into town that do not have them.
Again I will keep you posted as we firm things up.

I will make sure things are covered at the shop and will plan on bringing down extra kayaks. Happy to help any way that I can. Rod was always a positive force, a good man taken way too soon.

Would be great if we had an idea of how many people plan on being there for the paddle out.

I'll be there. I'll make ceviche tostadas, but I'll need some fish.

To anyone who can donate some fish (thank you in advance!),
please cube it up into 1/2-3/4" squares and bring it cold,
and thawed out.

Also, a bottle or two of some good RUM for shooters with
ceviche juice. Bring the RUM ice cold. (Will we have plastic cups?)

Find me in the morning on the beach before the paddle out.

That way I can get the fish into the lemon-lime juice, "cooking",
by the time we gather at the park.

Let me know in advance how much fish you can donate in this
thread. Again, thanks in advance. Yanni

What kind of rum? White I'm guessing. I'll bring a bottle and some cups. Not sure what it'll taste like but I trust anything Yani cooks up.

I'll be there in spirit, but the body will be on the road. I appreciated the dedication to reporting RodnVal had in the days, and their adventurous travel spirit. I'm sorry for the loss.

Expressed apologies to Val for being unable to join my kayak fishing buddies in the fitting salute to Rod - one of our sport's most positive spirits. Glad this is happening, sad not to be with you all for it.

Fished for close to 15 years with Rod - could tell his silhouette in the yellow-scupper pro from quite the distance - always paddling his direction to get caught up on stuff (In addition to kayak fishing, we shared many interests). I miss Rod, and I'll miss being with some of the old-guard as they salute one of our own.

Rod was a good person on and off the water. Send him off well gents.
