First Ling (24") and never tasted one...will cook up the green fillets tonight to see what the hype is about.

Location: LJ
Depth: 60-70
Rig: dropper/50lb mono/4/0 hook/torpedo sinker
Bait: squid

Ling hit on the drop. Landed some rockfish as well.

thx...wasn't expecting a ling nor did I go out seeking one today. I'll take it. Might have to try again depending on the taste. I'm sure I'll like it.

Nice catch!
I might be wrong, doesn't green fillets usually indicate a Cabezon instead of Ling? That would be a monster Cabezon. If Lings have green fillets too, my bad. It's been so long since I've caught a Ling, I can't remember if they have green fillets too.

I dont think cabezon have teeth like that. Lots of lings are blue as are the fillets.

I did some googling when I caught it...I've seen pictures of both with the green. Ling have big teeth and are long and skinny.

They are pretty tasty now that I tried one...

I thought it was a ling too, because of the teeth only, but the green fillets threw me off. I think IF, IF you caught a 2 foot cabezon, there'd be some teeth, just not as large. Plus one of the largest cabbies you're likely to find.

Cooked this in less than 10 minutes. Cajun lingcod one side blackened for taste. 3 minutes each side in olive oil...Mccormick cajun powder and a tiny dash of lawrys but not needed if you blacken. Spinach salad with blueberries and the dressing was just mezzetta Italian mix giardiniera vegetables with juice from the jar.

I like lingcod now1952619527 it's so versatile and easy to cook up in just about any way....can't say that for most fish.

20% of lings are green as with their meat...the color goes away when cooked. fun fish to have friends over with. the green ling is a favorite of mine.

You are spot on....green and it turned back white when cooked. The wife was freaked out about the color and looks of this fish....had her google it so she could see even anthonys serves a ling cod dish. She thought it was a poisonous fish at first....poor lingcod always judged by their looks...it's what's inside that counts
