Mirage drive landing question

Just replaced my Jackson big tuna with a 2014 Hobie pa 14. I read through the posts on everyone's preferred method of landing. For those who choose to paddle in, where do you store your drive while landing?

I just take out and put between my legs. But you always need to have them leashed to the yak.
I have a Revo 13... But have owned a PA14. That PA14 is a beast to launch and land in surf.

Most guys drive the boat in (using peddles). I preferred paddling in. That being said, I would pull the drive and install the plug. I also had tailor shorten the leash. This will prevent the leash from wrapping around neck. Also I would tie knot where buckle is to prevent to drive from separating. You can also double feed the leash through the mirage drive and run it back through the loop you created. Eliminating buckle all together will prevent any possible way of loosing drive, other than the eyelit ripping out of boat .

I don't store it, just put the bungee on it to keep secure to the bottom of the yak and paddle in.

The small Hobie manual that came with my 2016 Revo says the plug is for use during storage to keep the mirage drive opening in the hull from distorting during transport or storage. I would guess if you leave the drive inplace when the kayak is not in use, it would do the same thing.

I wouldn't use the plug in a Pro Angler in the surf. When a big wave breaks over the bow (any wave 2ft or bigger looks HUGE when you're on a PA) then that drive hole is the best drain to empty the cockpit. Until that cockpit area drains at least 50% you are almost dead in the water and probably listing to one side.
